Formerly Abused Dog Gets A New Home & A Job With Florida Sheriff’s Office

iHeartDogs initially passed on bringing you the story of Chance, a Florida Cur Dog found with his muzzle taped shut. The images were graphic and the story was infuriating. But just a few short days after his rescue, Chance’s future is looking bright!

He is recovering from his injuries, and has found his forever home with one of his rescuers, Deputy Richard Castellon of the Lee County Sheriff’s Office.

Not only will Chance accompany his new dad to work, he has also been deputized and will serve as the official “Pets on Patrol Spokes-dog.”

In the wake of Chase’s case, the sheriff’s office has vowed to crack down on animal abuse and work towards strengthening the penalties for abusers.

“Animals, they’re innocent,” Castellon told WINK News. “We can’t allow; we can’t sit back and let anyone abuse an animal.”

The reward for information leading to the arrest of Chance’s abuser is now nearly $17,000.

In the meantime, Deputy Chance is living his best life. As his first official duty, he accompanied  Sheriff Carmine Marceno to a ribbon-cutting ceremony for a new roller skating center last weekend.

Later that same day it was on to The Lee County Sheriff’s Office Teen Driver Challenge where youngsters honed their driving skills maneuvering through obstacle courses. The young Deputy watched from a safe distance, of course!

According to the Facebook page for the Lee County Sheriff’s Office:

“When asked to describe his first day on duty, Deputy Chance stated, ‘ruff.'”

Be sure to follow the department’s page to see where Deputy Chance is assigned next!
