March 2022

On his way home from work, Rico Soegiarto saw a dog half-buried in the road in Denpasar, Bali. She was severely malnourished, had wounds all over her body, and was completely hairless.

She was a Siberian Husky, but she looked so terrible that you couldn’t tell. Rico took one look at this poor dog and determined he must save her.

Rico already had four rescue dogs at home, but he fell in love with this pup the moment he set eyes on her. He chose the name Hope because of her bright blue eyes, which glowed with hope despite her horrible condition.

Rico found Hope and brought her home, and her recovery began. To assist her fur regrow, Rico gave her a lot of medication baths and ate a lot of food for weight gain. Nurseing Hope back to health was an incredible job by Rico.

You’re about to read a story about one smart pup. His name is Jackson and THIS is his story!

After rescuing a 3-year-old dog named Jackson from the shelter, Dan Moore became his owner. Moore saved Jackson by taking him in and training him every day. In only a month, Moore had him trained to do something mind-boggling! Every passerby saw Jackson and wanted this dog for themselves – a dog that no one else was interested in just a month ago.

After that, he tried to walk around with him in busy areas so that he could work with him while getting acclimated to the noise and distractions. He had Jackson sit and remain for a while. Then he had him sit and stay for longer. After that, he sent away while walking away from him.

He did it over and over again UNTIL Jackson was able to be left alone long enough for Moore to do his shopping.

Hypoallergenic Dog Breeds

Some dog lovers have the misfortune of being allergic to the animals they adore, and because of this, some people have developed hypoallergenic dog breeds. These breeds may not be 100% allergen-free, but they certainly make life easier for those living with allergies. With so many to choose from, we’ve compiled a list of the most popular hypoallergenic dog breeds.

#1 – Poodle

Small Poodles running

Whether you’re looking for a small dog or a larger companion, the Poodle is a great choice for someone with allergies. They come in both the large standard and small toy sizes, and both variations sport the minimally shedding coat that makes them ideal for allergy sufferers. They’re also very intelligent dogs that are easy to train and make excellent family pets.

#2 – Maltese

Fluffy Maltese in grass

These small white dogs make great family companions and have a much more hair-like coat than fur. Maltese also shed very little and are therefore a great choice for those looking for a hypoallergenic dog. Their size and docile temperaments make them one of the most popular breeds chosen by allergy sufferers.

#3 – Bichon Frise

Hypoallergenic Bichon Frise

The soft, almost non-shedding coat of the Bichon Frise makes the breed an excellent choice for those looking to curb their allergies. They are small dogs with huge personalities, and they are an excellent choice for individuals or families with children. And best of all? They are super simple to train.

#4 – Labradoodle

Hypoallergenic Poodle mix dog

The Labradoodle is a created hypoallergenic breed made by crossing Labrador Retrievers and Standard Poodles. Although not all specimens of this breed are hypoallergenic, some of them do share the same qualities as their Poodle ancestors and are a great choice for those looking to avoid heavy shedding.

#5 – Havanese

Havanese puppy

Havanese are happy, silly dogs with silky coats. Their hair is light with minimal shedding, so their coats can grow out as much as you’d like. Most owners keep this breed’s hair short to limit the risk of allergies and make brushing sessions easier.

#6 – Portuguese Water Dog

Portuguese Water Dog Laying Down

This was the dog of choice for the current United States president, as he was looking for a hypoallergenic breed himself. The Portuguese Water Dog is a popular breed among allergy sufferers and makes a wonderful family companion.

#7 – Soft Coated Wheaten Terrier

Group of Wheaten Terriers

Wheatens are named for their soft coats that resemble hair more than fur. They shed very little and are therefore considered to be a hypoallergenic breed. They are popular among allergy sufferers not only because of their hypoallergenic features, but because they make great family companions as well.

#8 – Chinese Crested

Chinese Crested Dog

These dogs seem like an obvious choice for someone who needs a hypoallergenic breed because they hardly have any hair at all! Even the coated variety has hair that rarely sheds, making this unique breed fairly popular among those suffering from allergies.

#9 – Coton de Tulear

Coton de Tulear Hypoallergenic

As the name implies, these dogs have white coats that are as soft as cotton. They have happy, loyal attitudes, so theyre likely to follow their favorite human everywhere they go. However, their coats are easily matted and require regular brushing.

#10 – Shih Tzu

Shih Tzu face

In dog shows, Shih Tzus have long, flowing coats that drag on the floor like a mop. Yet, most families keep their Shih Tzus coats short to reduce allergies and grooming needs. These little dogs are charming and get along with almost every human they meet.

#11 – Giant Schnauzer

Giant Schnauzer resting

The Giant Schnauzer is an excellent choice of dog for those looking for a large breed that is also easy on allergies. Their wiry coats shed minimally and are weather resistant. Giant Schnauzers are very active dogs and would do best with an adventurous person or family. Miniature Schnauzers also make great hypoallergenic pets!

#12 – Yorkshire Terrier

Groomed Yorksire Terrier

Yorkies are perfect lap dogs, with most of them weighing between 5 and 7 pounds. They have fine hair that resembles the texture of a humans. To keep their hair silky, these playful pups need regular brushing.

#13 – West Highland Terrier

West Highland Terrier Low-Shedding

Westies are distinguished by their white, low-shedding coats. They have a playful, optimistic attitude, so they quickly bond with their humans. Their coats are a bit thicker than similar breeds, so you can expect a little extra shedding when seasons change.

#14 – Afghan Hound

Afghan Hound running

The Afghan Hound is a beautiful sighthound that has a long, flowing coat. Although at first glance they appear to be heavy shedders, they actually shed very little and are a great breed for someone suffering from allergies.

#15 – Kerry Blue Terrier

The Kerry Blue Terrier has a coat similar to the Soft Coated Wheaten Terrier and makes an equally great family companion. They are minimal shedders and make a great choice for the person or family looking for a hypoallergenic dog.

#16 – Cairn Terrier

Cairn Terrier in snow

Cairn Terriers have coarse hair thats perfect for humans suffering from allergies. Despite being so small, they’re fearless dogs that are always looking for adventure. Toto from The Wizard of Oz is likely the most famous Cairn Terrier.

#17 – Xoloitzcuintli

While there is a coated variety of this breed, these dogs are most commonly known for having no hair at all! Their skin is tough to provide an extra layer of protection, but they can easily get cold during the winter months. So, they can benefit from a cozy sweater to keep them warm.

The dog rescuers were devastated when they went out to the pile of pups in the ground. One of them had already passed away, but the others were barely clinging on. When the humanitarians informed Lexus that one of her puppies had perished, she was overcome with grief. When Drew Harrisberg went to the shelter to adopt a dog, he discovered that the dog he had his eye on had been taken. As a result, he decided to look at the other dogs in the facility. That’s when a peculiar noise caught his attention.

Image/Story Source Credit: Instagram on Drew Harrisberg and TheDodo via YouTube Video

He heard what he refers to as a pig-seal squeal. Drew turned around to discover that the sound was, in fact, emitted by a Pit Bull mix named Dennis, who for some reason was ecstatic to see him.

Image/Story Source Credit: Instagram on Drew Harrisberg and TheDodo via YouTube Video

He instantly fell in love with the dog, and he was powerless to stop himself. He had to have this squealing, talkative dog. Dennis was already booked into adoption by someone else as fate would have it. So Drew came up with another plan: foster Drew for the two weeks prior to his adoption going through.

Despite the fact that the shelter warned Drew that he would become attached to Dennis, he still decided to foster him. The shelter was correct; Dennis turned out to be a chatter-box, and Drew became instantly devoted to him. So much so that when it was time for Drew to return, he didn’t have the heart to do so.

A couple driving down a highway near Oviedo, Florida, came upon something that made them come to a halt. They saw a dog walking along the side of the road without knowing where he was heading and nearly colliding with traffic. They abruptly pulled over and went to see if everything was all right with the animal. Meet Lucky, THIS is his INCREDIBLE story and happy ending!

Image/Story Source Credit: YouTube/Scoop

They were taken aback by his physical condition. He had severely matted fur that restricted his mobility and concealed much of his face, so he couldn’t see where he was going and almost got hit. He was barely responsive and appeared to have been abandoned and neglected for the most part of his life.

The pair was unable to leave him there. As a result, they elected to take him with them in the vehicle. However, because they were unable to care for him over the night, they issued an appeal on social media – which was answered by groomer Kari Falla.

Image/Story Source Credit: YouTube/Scoop

When a dog’s coat is matted to the point that blood flow is restricted, as well as bruising, it can happen. Kari recognized she couldn’t wait till the following day to assist him when she saw him in such terrible condition.

Oscars dog adoption

There has been a lot of talk about the 2022 Oscars, but sadly, many people seemed to forget about a wonderful moment involving Jamie Lee Curtis. The actress came on stage for a Betty White tribute, and she had a tiny rescue dog named Mac & Cheese with her.

Since Betty White was a huge animal advocate, Curtis used that moment to encourage more people to adopt dogs in need like Mac & Cheese. But little did she know, someone had already fallen in love with the rescue pup while she was backstage. Sometimes you meet the perfect dog for you when you least expect it!

A Heartfelt Oscars Moment

Curtis was proud to share kind words about the late Betty White. The iconic actress passed away shortly before her 100th birthday, but her legacy has lived on through animal welfare. Many people have donated to animals in need and adopted pets in her honor. So, Curtis talked about White’s love for rescue animals while holding Mac & Cheese on stage.

“Day in and day out for almost a century, she was a woman who cared so much for not just her two-legged friends but for animals just like this,” Curtis said. “So, the greatest gift you could give Betty White is to open your heart and your home and adopt a rescue dog just like Mac & Cheese from (the nonprofit organization) Paw Works.”

Throughout the night, Curtis posted lots of photos of her holding Mac & Cheese. But at one point, she also showed a heartwarming picture of John Travolta cuddling with the tiny pup. He got to meet her shortly before he gave the award for best actor. Little did Curtis know that interaction would lead to a forever home for the dog.

Mac & Cheese Finds the Perfect Home!

A day after the Oscars aired, Curtis announced that Travolta and his son decided to adopt Mac & Cheese. She and Travolta both posted a photo of the pup with her new family. Curtis said this adoption is a perfect example of what White would’ve wanted.

“I thought it was so beautiful to see him with her, and then today I found out that he and his son, Ben, have adopted beautiful little Mac & Cheese and are taking her home today. It is an emotional end and a perfect tribute to Betty White,” Curtis wrote on Instagram.

Mac & Cheese will join the two other pets in Travolta’s family: a Poodle mix named Jinx and a cat named Crystal. She is such a lucky pup, but there are still millions of homeless animals out there. So, if you’re looking to honor Betty White, consider adopting an animal in need. If you’re unable to do that, other methods like fostering, volunteering, donating, and spreading the word can all make a huge difference too!

The loyalty of dogs to their human loved ones is seen in the numerous stories of dog-parents. Ask them and they will share stories of how their pup kept bouncing back up after anything life threw at it, whether or not it was understood by its owner or handler.

Every single day, deep down inside, there are things that remind us everything is going to be ok. This heartwarming story provides a small ray of light in our lives to show us that when all hope seems lost, there are still genuinely good people to be found in the world.

Penni’s life took a turn for the better, however, when Dad moved from New Jersey to Las Vegas. He started taking Penni on hikes and that proved to be a beacon of light she needed. Slowly, she came out of her shell and finally embraced the passionate spirit inside her.

Bravo Packing Inc Permanent Recall

For the first time in history, a federal judge has permanently recalled a pet food company. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration ordered Bravo Packing, Inc. to stop manufacturing, distributing, and selling its products. This includes their Performance Dog and Ground Beef raw dog food packages.

This company is based in Carney’s Point, New Jersey, and they’ve already faced four recalls before this incident. The company failed to make necessary improvements following those recalls. Despite having a very similar name, Bravo Packing, Inc. has no relation to Bravo Pet Foods.

Dog among tall grass

Why Was This Brand Permanently Recalled?

Bravo Packing, Inc. faced recalls in 2018, 2019, and 2021. After inspections of the New Jersey facility, samples tested positive for Salmonella and Listeria monocytogenes. Products testing positive for those conditions can be dangerous for both humans and animals.

The FDA states that they found “grossly insanitary conditions” after inspections in 2019 and 2021. The company didn’t follow proper manufacturing processes. Even after receiving a warning letter from the FDA, the company did not improve the quality of its manufacturing facility. So, the FDA has no choice but to shut them down.

“The FDA has taken this action to protect public health because, despite multiple inspections, notifications of violations, and recalls, this firm continued to operate under insanitary conditions and produce pet food contaminated with harmful bacteria. We will not tolerate firms that put people or animals at risk and will take enforcement actions when needed,” said Dr. Steven Solomon, director of FDA’s Center for Veterinary Medicine.

What Should Customers Do?

Customers who have purchased products from this brand should dispose of them immediately. Clean any surfaces that the product might have touched, such as counters, containers, and bowls. Always wash your hands thoroughly after handling dog food.

If you or your dog experience any unusual symptoms after coming into contact with this food, reach out to a medical professional right away. Dogs who ate the food could experience vomiting, diarrhea, lethargy, fever, or a decreased appetite. Infected humans may face nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, severe headaches, fever, and abdominal pain.

“The food we give our pets should be safe for them to eat and safe for people to handle,” said Solomon.

Those negatively affected by a pet food product should also report a complaint to the FDA. This is true for any pet food, not just the ones in this recall. When it comes to the health and safety of our pets, it’s always better to be safe than sorry!
