Comedy Legends Including Carol Burnett And Bob Newhart Film PSA Tribute To Senior Dogs

As human beings, most of us have a natural fear of getting older. Life’s physical changes can be hard, no matter how long we’ve been expecting them. Comedy legends Carol Burnett, Bob Newhart, Lily Tomlin, and Carl Reiner are well into their 80s and 90s now. But as they all agree in a new PSA for The Grey Muzzle Organization, that’s really not so bad.

The Grey Muzzle Organization has provided nearly $2 million in grants to 190 different senior dog programs and organizations. Grey Muzzle is not a shelter or rescue group, but they fund valuable things like hospice care, senior dog adoption, medical screening, and more to help old dogs nationwide.

In the video, the celebrities speak candidly about the drawbacks and benefits of getting older.

Lily Tomlin: “The best thing is getting into the movies cheaper.”

Bob Newhart: “I’m 90, but I still feel like I am 30… except when I try to run.”

While getting old as people isn’t all bad, for senior dogs there seem to be far more drawbacks they point out. For example: many people won’t consider an old dog’s care worth the expense.

Carol Burnett: “Many older dogs are surrendered to shelters because their owners passed away or can’t afford their care.”

Bob Newhart: “…And for some of them there are no more options.”

All four actors support Grey Muzzle and its noble cause: to prove that old age in dogs is “not a death sentence,” just as it isn’t for older people. These dogs deserve love and dignity.

Carl Reiner: “When you support Grey Muzzle, you’re giving senior dogs the most precious gift of all…”

Lily Tomlin: “…The chance to live out their final years, months or days with dignity, grace and a happy smile on their face.”

Grey Muzzle’s executive director Lisa Lunghofer said the organization is honored to have the assistance of these prolific actors in spreading awareness of old dogs’ plight.

“Thanks to these legendary stars, more people will learn about at-risk senior dogs and how donating to Grey Muzzle saves and improves the lives of old dogs nationwide.”

While these comedians are proud of their dignity in aging, the difficulty senior dogs have getting adopted is no joke. To quote Lily Tomlin: “Go out and adopt a senior dog. They are amazing! And they will be so grateful.”

Or you can help old dogs get what they deserve with your donation to Grey Muzzle!
