Your iHeartDogs Purchases Help Feed America’s Veterans

Feed our Vets is one of the many charitable organizations iHeartDogs supports through our affiliation with GreaterGood.org. Their mission is to ensure that the brave men and women who serve their country never have to experience the pain and shame of hunger. Marcenia, a former Airforce Personnel Programs Officer, contacted Feed our Vets for emergency food assistance after an unexpected incident drained her bank account.

The organization received the following statement from Marcenia:

“On 5 Aug 2017, my car was caught in a hail of gunfire with my windows and tire being shot out. It was my mandated weekend to work. I lost a day of pay and had to get the basic repairs done to work the following day and also to meet insurance requirements to complete further repairs. Had no extra money, so I had to use a portion of my rent for payment. My landlord is now threatening me with eviction. Have felt the degradation of homelessness – can’t do it again. Had heart surgery 17 July 2017, still recovering but back at work.”

Her story is an example of how Veterans who honorably served their country, and who are now living paycheck to paycheck, can have their entire lives derailed by events that happen to them through no fault of their own. Marcenia was on the knife edge of survival, and the incident that caused her to miss work could have pushed her over that edge without Feed Our Vets’ help.

Marcenia received food assistance to help her focus her resources on catching up on her rent and other bills. She was able to stay healthy and keep her apartment with help from Feed Our Vets and the support of GreaterGood.org.

“More than 130,000 Veterans are homeless and hungry on any given night in America. One in three homeless people in America is a U.S. Military Veteran. And nearly three million Veterans and their families don’t have enough to eat each month. – Feed Our Vets”
