Your Help Kept Two Surrendered Siblings Together

Part of each sale through the iHeartDogs store is donated to Greater Good, which helps support various charities like START Rescue. Through the Second Chance Movement™ program, providing travel miles for animal transport, happy endings like the one below are made possible!

German Shepherds Journey and Leya lived with their mom in Los Angeles, until that was no longer possible for them. START Rescue received a call from her, in tears, saying she had lost her home. As a result, she had to move to much smaller premises where dogs were not allowed. She didn’t know what to do for her dogs.

Los Angeles is a high-intake area, putting animals in overcrowded shelters at risk of euthanasia. START Rescue frequently brings animals from there to less crowded areas where they’ll have higher chances of adoption. These rescued animals end up filling empty kennels.

START worked their magic and reached out to their partner organizations in the Pacific Northwest. Soon, both pups would find themselves on their way up to Oregon Dog Rescue via START transport.

Together Forever

From the beginning, Journey and Leya’s rescuers intended to find them a home together. Their efforts absolutely paid off. Just before Christmas, these siblings found out they wouldn’t have to split up. Journey and Leya were adopted together!

If separated, bonded dogs can experience emotional and physical consequences. They’ll often exhibit signs of anxiety or depression, which may result in them refusing to eat. Unfortunately, it’s much harder to adopt out a pair than just one dog. Journey and Leya defied those odds, and your support helped make that possible!

Without grant funding from GreaterGood.org, who knows what would have happened to these siblings? What we do know is that they’re home for good now and happy to be with each other!

How You Helped

Transporting so many animals across the country (and even across the Mexican border) can be pretty expensive. Your purchases through the iHeartDogs store help the Second Chance Movement provide “miles” of transport from high-risk shelters to safety for pups like Journey and Leya. These “miles” reduce transportation costs; they cover things like fuel and insurance.

As you can tell from Journey and Leya’s story, relocation can change a dog’s circumstances pretty quickly. You can view all eligible products on iHeartDogs or make a direct donation hereYou can also check out all the animals iHeartDogs fans and shoppers like you have helped save here.
