Carrie Underwood has a soft spot for rescue dogs. Her pups play a big role in her life and are always present for important moments. However, she recently had to say goodbye to her oldest dog Ace. Ace had been with her through every up and down in life, and he was even part of her wedding! He had been slowing down recently and even wearing diapers, but his death was still unexpected to the country star.
A day after Ace’s death, Underwood turned to social media to share the heartbreaking news of her furry friend’s death. Sadly, his passing happened the same night as the 2022 Grammys.
A Tribute to Ace
Ace passed away on April 3rd, which was the same day that she won Best Roots Gospel Album at the 2022 Grammys. So, she was likely feeling a mix of emotions that night, and she waited until the following day to share the heartbreaking news about Ace.
“Last night my sweet Ace left this world…he will forever live on in our hearts and be forever missed. He was there for me when I was on my own trying to figure out life when it was at its craziest! He was with me through 3 houses, 6 tours, and 2 kids…always ready to snuggle and play…through all the highs and lows. He was a true friend and a good boy till the very end. I love you, sweet Ace…see you on the other side,” Underwood wrote on Instagram.
Underwood shared several photos of Ace along with the caption, and in one, she’s kissing his head. Many fellow celebrities shared their condolences, including fellow country star Miranda Lambert, who is also a huge rescue dog advocate.
Ace was by Underwood’s side for many milestones in her life. He was the ring bearer during Underwood’s wedding, and he wore an adorable pink tuxedo. He truly lived his life to the fullest.
Fans Show Incredible Support
After hearing about Underwood’s loss, her fans stepped up in a heartwarming way. Underwood founded the Checotah Animal, Town, & School Foundation (C.A.T.S.) in her hometown of Checotah, Oklahoma. Part of the organization focuses on creating an animal shelter and sharing the importance of adoption, spaying/neutering, and animal welfare.
A group of fans donated $4,326 to the organization in Ace’s honor. They shared the news on a Twitter fan account and tagged Underwood. She saw the post, and it brought her to tears.
“You guys are honestly the best!” Underwood wrote on Twitter. “When I read this, I immediately started crying…I can’t believe you all pitched in like that! Thank you from the bottom of my heart. And thank you on behalf of Ace and all the little furry babies that you are helping!”
Ace will live on as the face of Underwood’s organization, and his pawprints will also stay on her heart forever. Saying goodbye to him must’ve been devastating for Underwood, but it’s wonderful that she was able to give him the long, happy life he deserved. Rest in peace, Ace!
