Tuesday Dalmatian passes away

A Dalmatian named Tuesday was a famous actor in the show Chicago Fire. She made occasional appearances on the series as a dog with the same name as herself, and she quickly grew a fanbase. But sadly, after many years with the show, Tuesday had to say goodbye without much warning.

Now, Chicago Fire‘s cast and crew are mourning the loss of their furry friend. Fans of the show are devastated that Tuesday won’t be appearing in episodes anymore, but they’re grateful for being able to get to know the sweet canine through the TV.

An Unexpected Death

Daniel Kyri plays Darren Ritter, who is Tuesday’s owner on the show. The pup joined the cast during season 7 when she became part of the firehouse after Ritter introduced her to the other firefighters. While she wasn’t a main character, her screen time always brought joy to viewers.

Sadly, Tuesday passed away shortly before the season 10 finale. Her death was unexpected due to sudden kidney problems. Kyri used his Instagram story to create a tribute post for his canine co-star.

“Heartbroken to learn my little buddy is gone,” Kyri wrote. “Sending all my love to her trainer today. I got to spend time with her on set & do all the fun stuff but you took care of her when the cameras weren’t rolling. Love you Tues!”

So, this season’s finale of Chicago Fire will sadly be Tuesday’s last appearance. But her legacy will never be forgotten.

Rest in Peace, Tuesday

Tuesday’s trainer, Christine Mahaney, also posted about the pup’s passing on Tuesday’s Instagram account. Mahaney shared a photo of the Dalmatian in a field of flowers, along with a heartfelt caption.

“It breaks my heart to share that Tuesday passed away on Sunday, May 22, due to unforeseen kidney issues. The love from you, Tuesday’s fans, over the past 4 years has been immense,” Mahaney wrote. “Allowing her into your homes and hearts will forever be cherished. Tuesday loved working on set and being a part of the Chicago Fire family. Her tail never stopped wagging. She truly was very special.”

Tuesday’s Instagram is still active with adorable photos. Even though she will no longer be on the show, she will still be in the hearts of the humans she worked with.

Rest in peace, Tuesday. You brought joy to so many Chicago Fire fans!

We know that protecting our dogs is more essential than anything as loving dog owners. Their health, happiness, and well-being are all in our hands– as they are unable to look after themselves. We have to be cautious of what hidden dangers may harm our dogs, just like we would with toddlers.

Source: Unsplash

One dog, named Wasabi, was a recent victim to this hidden danger. His grandma, Patricia Polacco, posted this to Facebook:

“My Daughter Traci lost her dearest dog Wasabi to this…it was a pork rind bag. She had left to go pick up something at a friends, wasn’t even gone 10 minutes and her roommate called. He found her next to the front door with the bag still on her head. HAD SHE KNOWN……..it hadn’t even crossed her mind that something like this could happen. None of us knew!!!! Please spread the word. Chip bags, zip lock bags that had left over food in them, treat bags, yogurt containers, Especially the YoPlait, cut it all up!!!! Don’t leave them where pups and cats can get to them. Our hearts are still broken. Thank you.”

Another dog, named Menja, was also killed by a snack bag according to WUSA 9. Shira Reese, his mother, told the news station about the day she discovered her dog dead:

“I went downstairs and I found him unresponsive with a Goldfish bag around his neck,” Shira told WUSA 9. “At that point, he was stiff.”

Source: WUSA9

A 3rd dog owner, Debbie Smith, also spoke about her worst day imaginable,

“[He] was starting to swell and such. It was just unbearable. He was my life for 10 years. I wept like a baby for days and weeks.”

The four dogs were merely following natural instinct: hunger. Their insatiable appetite led to their deaths.

Every dog is vulnerable. It doesn’t matter how well-trained they are, or whether they’re big or little. People who own dogs would be shocked to learn that their beloved pets could perish in a death trap like this.

Advice to dog owners:    Keep all snack bags hidden. Another great idea is to invest in sealable containers that fit in your pantry. This will also keep food fresher longer and save you money over time. Please be careful. Their safety is at risk!

Freckles the dog would not stop barking! Even into the early hours of the morning, Freckles, a 3-year-old Husky-Labrador mixed breed, barked endlessly. George Woods got out of bed to see what was going on.

The shocking reason for their dog’s barking was a 7-1/2-foot alligator that paced and hissed in the paved area near the family’s front door, oh my goodness!

“My first thought was, holy shi-nikies, what are we gonna do now?” Woods told a Coral Springs reporter.

He phoned the guard at their guarded community’s security, who was doubtful about the authenticity of his story. They called Gator Boys, a team of alligator hunters, when they came down and saw the enormous reptile.

The team of wildlife experts was able to relocate the big gator dubbed Daisy to another suitable habitat.

Freckles is being praised as a hero since his mother was getting ready to leave for work as an airline pilot. The family didn’t walk on the gator, which was lurking in the dark, thanks to Freckles’ warning. What a GOOD BOY!

A tiny dog was sobbing and tugging at an officer’s uniform while directing him toward a certain direction. Officer Christopher Bisceglia recognized that something was wrong and took action since the dog’s continuous barking made him suspicious.

The officer noticed something terrible had happened, therefore he started following the dog. The dog stopped at an ice-covered, marshy embankment and pleaded with the officer to look down the slope after crossing a vast vacant field. The officer was startled to discover yet another Scottish terrier trapped and snowed in.

The officer called for help from the fire department to save the stranded canine. It turned out that the two dogs were siblings named Jacques and Annabelle, who had escaped their home due to an elderly owner being taken to the hospital for an emergency. However, shortly after, Annabelle slipped into the embankment, causing Jacques to panic.

Annabelle had a few wounds, but she is doing fine. The two canines will be in the care of animal control until their owner returns from the hospital. Annabelle wouldn’t have survived the frigid night if it wasn’t for her caring doggie brother’s timely offer to get help, according to the animal control officer. Jacques and Officer Bisceglia are both heroes.

On Wednesday, May 25th, rescue dogs from across the country gathered to compete in one of the world’s most prestigious (and adorable) dog show competitions: The Fifth Annual American Rescue Dog Show. And while the competition categories for this show may be slightly different than those of, say, the famous Westminster Dog Show, the competition is equally “ruff.”

Competitors of all shapes and sizes gathered on stage Wednesday to battle for one of seven titles. Categories included Best in Snoring, Best in Underbite, Best in Belly Rubs, Best in Fetching, Best in Ears, Best in Talking, and Best in Couch Potato.

The winners of each category took home an impressive medal and a $10,000 prize donated in their honor to a favorite rescue group. Celebrity judges Paula Abdul, Leslie Jordan, and Yvette Nicole Brown showed up in their dog-gone best to choose the winners of each category. There were winners of all kinds, from Border Collie to Bichon.

Perhaps the most coveted title up for grabs was that of “Best in Rescue,” which came with an additional $100,000 donated to the winner’s rescue of choice. A loveable pitbull named Capone won this grand championship title while simultaneously snagging the crown for “Best in Snoring.”

The $100,000 prize grant for “Best in Rescue” was funded by PetCo and will be donated, in Capone’s honor, to the San Diego Humane Association, whom he represented in the competition. Producer Michael Levitt, a proud owner of three senior pit bulls, hopes that Capone’s notoriety as the Grand Champion will inspire viewers to be more open-minded about adopting an adorable Pitty of their own.

“If our show inspires more people to adopt pit bulls like Capone from shelters, or any dog in need, it will be a dream come true. Adopters of shelter pets are true champions,” said Levitt

Michael Levitt is the founder and producer of the show, which is celebrating its fifth anniversary this year.

“As a rescuer, I’m saving one dog at a time, which is amazing, but as a producer, I knew I could do so much more to have an impact on a national level,” said producer Michael Levitt. “That’s really how ‘The American Rescue Dog Show’ came about.”

The folks at The American Rescue Dog Show have donated nearly one million dollars thus far to various animal shelters and rescue groups. It’s no wonder it’s been referred to as one of the most wholesome shows on television!

Pit Bull dragged behind car

When some people spotted a Pit Bull mix being dragged behind a moving vehicle in Ohio, they knew they had to act fast. There was no doubt in their minds that the act was blatant animal abuse. If those good Samaritans hadn’t witnessed the horrific event and reported it, the dog would’ve died from severe injuries.

The dog is currently on the road to recovery, but she’s very friendly and optimistic, considering everything she’s been through. No dog should have to go through trauma like this, and it’s heartbreaking that animal abusers are rarely heavily punished.

Dog Dragged Down the Road

The car drove 35 mph for at least 100 yards while the dog known as Oreo was chained to the back and dragged behind. When the car stopped, the driver chained up the dog outside. But luckily, several people witnessed the abuse and called the Youngstown Police Department.

Animal Charity of Ohio took in Oreo and assessed her injuries. She had two broken toes on each foot, and all her paws were degloved. She also had a road rash on her abdomen, several broken nails, and abrasions on all her legs. So, the rescue is doing everything they can to help her recover.

“Despite the horrific abuse Oreo just endured she is still wagging her tail and wants to be held. We will continue to monitor throughout the day, she is resting comfortably right now with pain medication and antibiotics on board,” Animal Charity of Ohio wrote on Facebook.

Rescue Helps Canine Heal

Oreo still has lots of healing ahead of her, but right now, she’s enjoying her time at the rescue. She’s soaking up all the attention while she receives medications and treatment. Her paws are still painful to walk on, which is understandable. So, the team members at the rescue have made accommodations to keep her comfortable.

“She is carried outside to potty and then back in to rest. We are closely monitoring her wounds and pain level, her medication is adjusted as needed to keep her as comfortable as possible,” the rescue wrote.

Charges are pending, but many dog lovers hope the person responsible will be severely punished. No dog deserves to go through that, especially not a pup as sweet and loving as Oreo.

The rescue hasn’t mentioned if/when Oreo will be available for adoption. However, there are still plenty of other adoptable dogs at the shelter that need homes too!

A woman in the Woodland Hills neighborhood of Los Angeles unknowingly played foster mom to one additional canine this week when a bold coyote scaled her 6-foot privacy fence and entered her home through the doggy door. Julie Levine runs a non-profit called Canine Rescue Connection, which specializes in rehoming Beagles.

The coyote was caught on Levine’s Ring cameras brazenly entering the home in the middle of the night while she and the dogs were sleeping.

Facebook

“The dogs went crazy, and then I said this happened before with a rat, what else could be out there now?” Levine said.

RELATED: Home Surveillance Captures Coyote Attack & Ultimate Rescue Of Family Dog

Luckily, the coyote had already fled by the time the dogs woke up and caught its scent, so there was no physical confrontation. It wasn’t until Levine checked her cameras to see what the fuss was about that she realized what had happened.

“I think he probably went down the hall, saw what he was up against, and probably skedaddled out of there,” Levine said. “Then when the dogs realized they caught the scent, because they are beagles, they have incredible noses, and went nuts, and that’s why I decided to look at the security camera to see what all the hubbub was about, and turns out, it was a very large coyote.”

Facebook

In total, the predator remained inside her home for about three minutes. This incident comes just days after a coyote attacked another family’s dog in the same neighborhood.

“The son found it when it happened and pulled the dog out of its mouth,” Levine said.

It is almost unheard of for coyotes to enter homes, but they are known to injure and even kill small pets found outdoors. While they rarely attack humans, their habitat and food sources continue to diminish, making predators like coyotes and mountain lions ever more desperate. A coyote attacked a child at Huntington Beach Pier in April, leaving her with facial injuries.

“They’re definitely very brazen, I mean to go inside the house like they belong there … We know they can scale fences, but we just didn’t think that they would go through the dog door itself and be in the house,” Levine said.

Levine has since boarded up her doggy door. She hopes this incident serves as a warning to other Los Angeles pet parents.

“They are bold, they are smart, they are looking for food, they’re looking for water and they may just bring some friends back the next time around,” she said.

Ethan is doing well

Ethan the rescue dog has become a social media star after enduring a painful past and making a miraculous recovery. When the Kentucky Humane Society first found him, he was abandoned in a parking lot and 50 pounds underweight. But after reaching a healthy weight and maintaining a positive attitude, Ethan was adopted by the facilities director of the shelter. Ethan has had many challenges even after getting adopted, but his loving family has helped him through them.

He will likely always have lasting effects from his past trauma. But in a recent update, the family shared that the beloved rescue dog is doing well!

A Series of Setbacks

Sweet Ethan has had one successful day after another, thanks to the many people who believe in him. But in July 2021, his family revealed that he suffered a major setback. Halfway through the month, Ethan had seizures almost daily. His family worked closely with vets to find an explanation.

After a neurology appointment and an MRI, vets determined that the seizures were caused by past trauma. He has several lesions, along with additional brain damage in his frontal lobe. The extreme starvation he faced before being dumped at the shelter led to the recent seizures. So, Jeff Callaway, Ethan’s dad, gave him medication for his seizures right away.

At first, nothing seemed to work. But after trying multiple treatment methods, Ethan showed some improvements. He had a few good days in a row, which eventually led to no seizures at all. One of Ethan’s most recent Facebook updates shared a positive outlook on how well he’s doing.

“First and foremost, Ethan is doing very well. His loving personality and joy for people is back in full swing and he continues to bring smiles and happiness to everyone we run across. His seizures seem to be gone for now. But we monitor his health so closely every day,” a Facebook post reads.

Ethan is Still Thriving

As usual, Ethan continues to inspire his many fans. He gets to come to work with Callaway, where he has his own bed to rest in. He also gets endless amounts of love from vets, employees, and volunteers. He’s been getting to go out and do some of his favorite things again, including visiting dog-friendly breweries. After all, he is the “chief tasting officer” for Busch’s dog “beer.”

“Thank you to everyone for their fantastic support. I can’t say it enough, Ethan has the best extended family in the world. I think if there was anything Ethan needed, someone in his family would step up. Thank you for your understanding and patience as posts slowed down so we could focus all our attention on Ethan’s health,” the Facebook post added. “Thank you to the Kentucky Humane Society who support Ethan and myself everyday!! Just because he’s been adopted hasn’t meant their support has stopped. They are an amazing organization filled with amazing people whose sole focus is to make the lives of animals better. I’m proud to be able to play a part in that mission.”

Ethan might always face more struggles than other rescue dogs, but he’s fortunate enough to have many loving humans to help him through it. He is a brave pup and an inspiration to all!

Pebbles

It was only a few weeks ago that a tiny tan Chihuahua named “Toby Keith” was announced as the “World’s Oldest Living Dog,” by the Guinness Book of World Records. As you would expect, a dog living to be older than two decades was widely discussed and made tons of headlines all across the internet. But, as it turns out, there is a Toy Fox Terrier named Pebbles that is actually older.

Pebbles
Instagram

Ordinarily, you wouldn’t expect a world record to be shattered so quickly. But it was after Pebbles’ parents saw a news segment featuring Toby Keith accepting his award for the oldest living dog that they quickly did the math and realized that their very own canine companion was actually slightly older.

“Bobby was sitting on the couch and friends and family started texting and calling about a story they saw about a 21-year-old dog getting the record. When I saw TobyKeith’s story all over the news, I applied,” shared Julie, Pebbles’ mom.

Exactly How Old Is Pebbles?

It was just confirmed by the Guinness Book Of World Records that Toby Keith was born on January, 9th 2001, making him 21 years and 66 days old. However, they also confirmed that Pebbles was born on March 28, 2000. So, as of now, Pebbles has taken the crown at 22 years and 59 days old.

Welcoming Pebbles Home

Interestingly, the South Carolina couple was originally seeking a large dog, such as a Rottweiler, when they showed up to search for a family pet in 2000. But Pebbles made it clear that she wanted to be taken home by Bobby and Julie. Every time Bobby would walk by, Pebbles would follow him from her enclosure.

“She was jumping and barking so much at Bobby that he had no choice but to pick her up and check her out. It was instant love the second the two met,” said Julie.

Pebbles’ Personality

Obviously, what Pebbles lacks in size, she makes up for with her “life of the party” personality. A typical day in the life of the four-pound pup includes listening to country music while she sleeps until 5 pm, snuggling under warm blankets, sunbathing, and enjoying her treats and snacks. Despite her age, Pebbles displays a calm and loving demeanor and still has a hearty appetite.

“Pebbles is like a wild teen who loves to sleep during the day and is up all night. Her two favorite country singers are Conway Twitty and Dwight Yoakam,” shared her mom.

Bubble Bath
Instagram

This year, Pebbles celebrated her birthday by indulging in a rack of ribs and then taking a luxurious bubble bath.

What an incredible blessing to get to spend 22 years with your beloved fur baby. Here’s hoping for many more!

The Capitol Hill area of Washington D.C. is very much a walking community. It is not uncommon for residents to run errands on foot with their furry friends in tow. Such was the case for Caroline Boyce, her boyfriend, and their dog Charlie (short for Charlotte) this past weekend.

Boyce tied the 7-year-old rescue pup outside a Giant Food supermarket as the couple popped inside for groceries. When they returned, Charlie was gone.

Facebook

The Search Begins

They contacted the police and set about distributing flyers right away. By the next day, several tips had come in that Charlie may be in the possession of a woman in a nearby apartment building. Boyce shared the info with the police, who knocked on the woman’s door but received no answer.

Luckily, the dog lovers of Capitol Hill were still on the case. Boyce began to receive calls from people at the apartment building around 10:00 that evening reporting that the suspect had returned home.

“They reached out saying, ‘You need to get here right now. This woman’s here.'”

Facebook

Taking Matters Into Their Own Hands

Boyce and her boyfriend immediately headed over to the property, where another resident guided them to the suspect’s door. The pair was determined to get Charlie back despite the potential threat to their safety.

“I knew that it was a risk,” Boyce said. “We were just begging, ‘Please, please, please let us have our dog back. We can see her. We can see you,” Boyce said.

The woman’s shadow was visible beneath the apartment door. Even more frustrating, so were Charlie’s paws. Despite an hour of pounding and pleading, the suspect did not respond.

Facebook

A Joyful Reunion

Boyce and her boyfriend still refused to give up. After just two hours of sleep, they returned at 6 AM the following morning, ready to confront the suspect when she emerged from the apartment with Charlie.

They waited in the lobby for more than two hours before their persistence paid off. When the woman finally emerged with Charlie, the delighted pup ran straight into the couple’s arms.

“She, you know, kind of gave a laugh at us, turned around and went right back upstairs,” Boyce said.

Boyce has not decided whether or not to press charges against the thief, but police say they are reviewing video footage from outside the grocery store to see if they can build a case.

Facebook

While she fears running into this woman again, Boyce says her most overwhelming emotion is gratitude for all the friends and strangers who helped bring Charlie home. And, of course, she is grateful for more time with her dog.

“Getting that 30-minute walk in the morning with Charlie sometimes gets pushed to the backburner. And, I think this experience… I’m really excited to get out there and, you know, take my dog for a nice long walk and enjoy the beautiful city that we live in,” Boyce said.

An Ongoing Problem

Several dognappings have plagued the area in recent months, including a Golden Retriever stolen outside a CVS just days before Charlie was taken and the armed theft of two dogs in Northwest D. C. in April.

The Golden Retriever was found safely, as was one of the dogs taken at gunpoint. However, the other pup, a French Bulldog named Bruno, is still missing.
