Trail Of Colorful Corgi Statues Appear For The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee

London Corgi Trail

2022 marks the first year a British Monarch has reached a Platinum Jubilee, which celebrates 70 years of service. Most of the events are occurring from June 2nd through June 5th, so there’s no shortage of excitement. Queen Elizabeth II has a big weekend ahead of her, but her celebration wouldn’t be complete without her favorite dog breed: Corgis!

In honor of the Queen’s celebration, there will be a special event for dog lovers. For all of June and July, people can explore London to find 19 giant Corgi statues, each painted by different artists. Find some time to see them while you can!

A Trail of Colorful Corgis

As part of the Platinum Jubilee, 19 colorful Corgi statues have been set up in public spaces around London. The trail of Corgis stretches from the Victoria Station to the Royal Courts of Justice. Many of the Corgis have been sponsored by local businesses.

People interested in locating all 19 statues can follow clues leading to each one or get a map of all the locations. Each Corgi is about 6.5 feet long, and they’re all designed by different contemporary artists. Each statue has its own name too.

These Corgis were created in honor of Queen Elizabeth because she’s a huge fan of the breed. Since the age of 7, she’s had over 30 dogs, all of which have been Corgis or Dorgis (Dachshund/Corgi mixes). Her love for Corgis has even inspired many people around the world to own the short-legged dogs.

“I hope our playful Corgi Trail will entertain visitors, young and old,” said Ruth Duston, chief executive of London HQ. “It is fantastic to be welcoming visitors back to London and doing what we arguably do best: a bit of pomp, some ceremony, British humor, and a very warm welcome, especially after the last difficult few years.”

Find Them Before They’re Gone!

The Corgi statues will be set up for all of June and July, so there’s plenty of time to see them. Once they’re taken down, they will be auctioned off at an event in autumn to raise money for charity. So, some people will get the honor of owning one of these beautiful art pieces.

“We are delighted to be part of this very special platinum jubilee celebration as we welcome two unique corgis from the trail to Cardinal Place and Nova,” said Marc Myers, the Retail Operations Director at Landsec. “The striking replicas, with designs produced by London artists, are a wonderful, eye-catching addition to the area, and we are looking forward to welcoming corgi-hunters over the next two months.”
