While every dog loves being with their human, there are some that really, really love to be with you. Dogs are sensitive creatures, and their desire to be near you is very strong–but for some, it’s more than that. Do you like a dog that clings to your side, ready to be your pal wherever you go? Then one of these clingy dog breeds, or “velcro dog breeds,” might be just the one for you!
#1 – Labrador Retriever
Labs are known for their easygoing personality and attachment to their humans. They’ll go anywhere with you – until “death do you part,” and even then, we are sure they wait at the Bridge. If you set aside plenty of time to exercise, cuddle, and play with your pup, they’re sure to love you forever. Labs are also known as one of the smartest dog breeds, which is why you’ll often see them working as service dogs.
#2 – Italian Greyhound
These little guys want a lap to sit on 24/7 and will make a fuss if you try to leave them behind, so don’t even think about it. They look just like Greyhounds, but much smaller at less than 15 pounds. They’re adaptable to new situations, but one thing they don’t tolerate well is the cold. That’s why you’ll see these skinny dogs often rocking cute little sweaters. As a plus, they also shed very little and are even tolerant around strangers.
#3 – Golden Retriever
Golden Retrievers are devoted dogs who are happy to do anything, as long as you are nearby. They’re playful, energetic, and can be quick learners with proper training. Like Labs, they’re used as service dogs and therapy dogs due to their intelligent, loving nature. Yet, they have thick coats of fur, which need to be brushed often to control their heavy shedding.
#4 – French Bulldog
These tenacious dogs may love their humans, but they might also have an ulterior motive to go everywhere with you. That’s right, Frenchies love leaving the house to greet their adoring fans. These short, wrinkly pups are one of the most popular breeds, and it’s no surprise why. They have the cutest little faces, with a flat snouts and pointed ears. Plus, their personalities are silly, playful, and adaptable. Yet, you should be careful when exercising them outside since they’re prone to breathing problems.
#5 – German Shepherd Dog
About as loyal as they come, this breed wants to make sure they can protect you by keeping you in their sights at all times, whether at work or on a picnic. Their loyalty and alertness is why they’re one of the most common police dog breeds. But don’t be fooled by their serious nature, these canines can still be playful and loving when they’re not on the lookout. Just don’t forget to brush them to keep their crazy shedding controlled!
#6 – Doberman Pinscher
These dogs will cling to the humans they love like velcro, and want nothing more than to be near their family members. Bred as a protection dog in Germany, their desire to be close stems from their desire to keep you safe. Not only are they fearless family protectors who need to live with their humans, but they are also very sensitive. So, don’t let those tough looks fool you one bit.
#7 – Pug
The Pug, like the Frenchie, loves going everywhere with their humans. They make great travel companions. Like Frenchies, they also have the same signature flat snout and wrinkly skin. So, they’re prone to lots of health concerns like breathing problems and skin infections, but they don’t let that slow them down. Pugs are charming, playful, and silly, which is why so many families love to have them around.
#8 – Coton de Tulear
Coton de Tulears are one of the most clingy dog breeds because they’re devoted to their humans. They aren’t willing to stay at home while you go on adventures, so make sure you buy them a doggy car seat. No matter where you take them, these happy-go-lucky dogs always bring positive energy with them. Plus, their silky cloud-like coats make them perfect for cuddling, as long as you brush out all those potential mats and tangles.
#9 – Great Dane
This gentle giant loves attention. They would rather follow you around than do much else, so you better have room in that SUV for your Dane to tag along. Despite regularly weighing over 100 pounds, these canines are often lazy and prefer lounging around beside their humans as much as possible. If you have a Great Dane in your home, you’ll also want to keep your counters clear. After all, they’re tall enough to grab food off the table or knock over vases with their tails. But don’t worry, their love and devotion make up for it.
#10 – Shetland Sheepdog
These dogs are “shadows,” following you from room to room. Most of them love car rides and will happily go anywhere, especially if there is something to chase at the destination. They look just like their larger cousin, the Collie. Like Collies, Shelties were bred for herding purposes, so they’re still quick, intelligent, and agile, despite their small size. So, be sure to give them plenty of exercise, even in a home setting.
If you love clingy dog breeds, then any of these canines will make perfect companions for you. After all, they’ll be eager to tag along on any adventures, making sure you always have someone to keep you company. Velcro dogs can be unconditionally loyal, and they’ll always be interested in snuggles. What’s not to love?
