Chicago police officers were responding to a big car accident when they saw something else that required their assistance. There were several cars involved in the accident and out from one of them ran a dog. The dog ran right over to Lake Michigan to take a drink of water over the concrete, but he quickly lost his balance and fell in. Police officers watched as the pup struggled to get out of the water unsuccessfully.
Fearing he would drown, they knew they had to save the poor pup. Probationary Police Officer Juan Farris, having only been sworn in just six weeks ago, ran over to rescue him. Once the dog was out, he was happily running around again. “He just kept running back and forth, was pretty excited. Kept trying to get water out of the lake and fell into the lake. I heard the splash. Once I heard, I turned over, I saw him swimming, just went over there and grabbed him. I was hoping he didn’t get too far, because it would’ve been quite the battle if I had to jump in,” Farris told ABC7.
Now, they’re looking for the owner of the dog. He doesn’t have a collar or microchip and is very friendly. One of the suspects from the car accident fled the scene, but was detained. It’s unclear whether or not this could be his dog. For now, though, the pup is safe and sound.
