Since January 2010, Animal Humane New Mexico has successfully re-homed 100% of the healthy pets in their care. They are also devoted to providing veterinary services and humane education to their community. Recently their sterling reputation was put at risk when a questionable profile for an “adoptable dog” appeared on their website. The incident has sparked an internal investigation within the non-profit rescue organization.
It is unclear whether it was an inside job or if someone got a hold of an American Humane worker’s password. The profile featured an adorable Bull Terrier with a not-so-cute name! As KRQE News so tactfully put it: “Let’s just say it rhymes with Tucker!”
It turns out there is no “rhymes with Tucker” – the name, photo and everything else are entirely fake, and the motive for the incident remains unknown.
Animal Humane says once the posting was brought to their attention, it was taken down immediately, but unfortunately the damage was done. The post was up for several hours – long enough for phone calls to begin pouring into the shelter. Their human resources department is currently interviewing workers to try to determine how the breach occurred.
This incident should in no way lessen the community’s faith in Animal Humane who have been dedicated to rescuing Albuquerque’s dogs and cats for seven and a half years.
