Man Hospitalized For 6 Months After Fire Finally Reunited With Best Friend

In December 2016, Gordon Wiggins suffered severe burns and smoke inhalation after his home caught on fire. Wiggins had been airlifted to the hospital and stayed there in recovery for 6 months. Also caught in the blaze was his beloved Pomeranian, Whisky. Antony Crowe, from NSW Fire and Rescue, was determined to see that Whisky got the care he needed both from the fire and while Wiggins was recovering. So he decided to take the dog in, nurse him back to health and keep him until Wiggins was released.

Finally, this moment came. Although Crowe would take Whisky to visit Wiggins in the hospital, Whisky wasn’t allowed to live there and Wiggins was still unable to care for him. Even now, Wiggins has his arm in a sling, but he’s healthy enough to go home and take Whisky with him. The 5-year-old pooch was led with a guard of honor by fire fighters and received a round of applause. The two are clearly thrilled to continue their future together.

Crowe said he thoroughly enjoyed getting to know Wiggins and Whisky on a personal level. Normally his job requires him to bust through doors and stop fires without every really getting to know the victims. Today, he knows exactly the lives he touched and just how much he’s helped them.
