A Tampa, Florida puppy is lucky to be alive after spending anywhere from half an hour to 3 hours stuffed into a backpack that had been placed in the bed of U.S Air Force veteran Jerry Murray’s pickup truck while he was in a meeting.
Murray didn’t notice the backpack until he got home and heard a noise when he went to pull his briefcase out of his truck. The puppy’s head was poking out of a New York Yankees backpack stuffed with strips of newspaper. Murray told WFLA:
“He’s in there, he’s panting, and I see him and I’m like ‘what am I going to do?’ I gave him some water, gave him some food and let him relax a little bit, ’cause I’m sure he was traumatized from the ride.”
Murray and his wife already have 3 dogs and weren’t able to add a fourth, so they called Second Chance Friends Rescue Group in Plant City. The puppy, named Zeus, will be available for adoption through them after he’s cleared by a veterinarian. We’re so glad Murray found Zeus before it was too late!
