Monty Don Posts Tribute After His Dog Passes

Monty Don, the presenter from BBC Two’s Gardener’s World, has recently suffered a tragic loss. Sadly, the dog lover had to say goodbye to his best friend Nigel out of the blue. Nigel was a beautiful Golden Retriever who often made appearances on the show, along with his two dog siblings, Nellie and Patti. Nigel’s death was very sudden, but Don said the sweet dog went peacefully. Since Nigel was one of the best parts of the show, fans were devastated when Don revealed the unfortunate news on his social media accounts. Rest in peace, Nigel.

Nigel’s Life

Nigel and his canine friends were often surprise guests on Gardener’s World. In fact, people adored their appearances so much that lots of fan mail was sent to them. Some fans even made social media accounts for the dogs. Don was amazed that the world was able to see how incredible his dogs truly are.

The sweet Golden Retriever influenced Don so much that he even wrote a book about him. Nigel: My Family and Other Dogs was released in 2016. In the book, Don discusses why we connect with animals so deeply and what dogs mean for us emotionally. Nigel had such a huge impact on his life, and he wanted to share that with the world.

“I look back on all the dogs in my life – all of which I have loved deeply and which have been an essential part of my life. So, this is the book of Nigel, but also the book of all dogs in every British family and a celebration of the deep love we feel for them,” said Don.

For most of his life, Nigel was very healthy. The only major health concern he faced was last year when he had surgery to remove growths from his mouth. Since then until the day he passed, he was still a happy, healthy pup. However, like all dogs, he started to grow old.

Saying Goodbye

Poor Nigel suddenly got ill recently, leaving Don with no choice but to say goodbye. He passed away with no pain or suffering, but it was still heartbreaking to see him go. After burying Nigel in his beautiful garden, Don made an emotional post on social media as a tribute to his loyal dog.

“I am very sorry to announce that Nigel has died. To the end he was happy, healthy and his usual calm, loving self,” wrote Don. “But he was suddenly taken ill and he slipped quietly away with no pain or suffering and is now buried in the garden with lots of tennis balls. Rest now old friend. See you in the sweet bye and bye.”

Following the tribute, he made even more posts with photo memories of Nigel. He also thanked his fans for all the love and support. Nigel was the star of Gardener’s World for many years, and now it was difficult for fans to say goodbye. We’ll all miss Nigel greatly, but at least he got to have such an amazing life on Earth with his loving dad. He was one lucky pup.
