Your Help Flew Two Dogs To Their Second Chances At Life

Part of each sale through the iHeartDogs store is donated to Greater Good, which helps support various charities. One of these organizations, Wings Of Rescue, provides air transport for dogs in risky situations to second chances elsewhere.  Through the Second Chance Movement™ program, happy endings like the ones below are made possible. Your support saves lives!

When 8-year-old Beagle Willie’s person passed away, he was turned in to the St. Bernard Parish Shelter outside of New Orleans.  A little Terrier mix named Bonzeye ended up there too, after he was found in the city’s 9th ward. An overcrowded shelter like St. Bernard Parish isn’t exactly the best place for a dog to find themselves. Many shelters will euthanize animals when kennel space is needed.

Thankfully, Wings of Rescue took Willie and Bonzeye from the overcrowded shelter where they might not have ever left otherwise. They flew the pups to St. Hubert’s Animal Welfare Center in New Jersey, one of their partner organizations. Wings of Rescue frequently transports dogs from high-risk areas in Louisiana and Mississippi.

Within minutes of being on the adoption floor, Willie found his forever home.

As for Bonzeye, it only took him an hour of availability to catch an adopter’s eye. He lives with his new mom in Boston now.

And all these pups needed to find families was a short airplane trip. Transport saved them.

Second Chance Movement™ partners with GreaterGood.org to donate travel miles for every product in the Second Chance Movement™ collection on iHeartDogs to charities that facilitate the transportation of adoptable animals from areas of low-demand to areas of high-demand. That means dogs like Willie and Bonzeye, who could have been euthanized if not rescued in time and brought north.

About Wings of Rescue

Using air travel, Wings of Rescue helps transport animals from high-intake areas  like New Orleans to places where their lives are less at risk. They work with shelters and animal rescue groups all across North America.  Wings of Rescue flights have touched down in 45 U.S. states, three Canadian provinces, Puerto Rico, the Virgin Islands, and the Bahamas. That’s a lot of lives saved!

“Too many pets and not enough homes is always the excuse.  Wings of Rescue is working around the clock to change this mindset by providing desperately needed air transport for thousands of at-risk pets from overcrowded high intake shelters where bad things are liable to happen to shelters with plenty of empty kennel space and adopters waiting.” – Wings of Rescue

The animals Wings of Rescue transports are filling empty kennels, not displacing any local animals. Dogs brought to areas with less overcrowding have greater adoption chances. Many of the animals are flying from disaster areas to safety as well.

Ground transport saves tons of lives, but can take 24 hours or more. Often that means animals are stuck in a crate without walks or food for hours. Most Wings of Rescue flights take about 3 to 4 hours. That’s a lot less taxing on the animals! Faster transport makes a huge difference in saving lives of animals with medical emergencies too.

Naturally, these great deeds cost money. Wings of Rescue’s amazing work continues only with donations and the generosity of their volunteer pilots. Because of iHeartDogs’ partnership with Greater Good, your purchases on our site help save lives through Wings of Rescue. You’re giving second chances to dogs like Bonzeye and Willie. I’m sure they’d thank you if they could!
