Actress Hilary Duff and her husband Matthew Koma are excitedly waiting for their new human baby to arrive. But in the meantime, they decided that their home could use one more mouth to feed on top of the unborn baby. After a long history of adopting dogs, Duff chose a new puppy for the family. This puppy is the sweetest, fluffiest, and most adorable Saint Bernard you’ll ever see.
While Duff is clearly ecstatic to have the pup, fans have mixed reactions about the situation. Of course, most of her followers couldn’t resist saying ‘aww’ at the sweet puppy photos, but others were left wondering where Duff got the puppy.
New Puppy Needs a Name
Duff first introduced her new puppy to followers on Instagram. She started by sharing a video on her story of her and Koma sitting in the car. Duff happily said that they were going somewhere special, but Koma looked unconvinced. Koma joked that they were “going to a farm to get murdered,” but Duff quickly clarified that they were getting a puppy. At the end of the video, Duff added that they were in Harleysville, Pennsylvania, “in case they go missing.”
Luckily, it looks like Duff and Koma made it home safe and sound with a new puppy. Duff shared an adorable photo of the tiny Saint Bernard with the caption, “Baby girl no name… taking suggestions.” Also, the puppy already seems to be getting along with Duff’s small rescue dog named Momo.

Not long after posting on her story, Duff also added an Instagram post with a photo of her son cuddling the new puppy. She captioned that photo, “easy like Sunday morning.” This caption caused many fans to suspect that she named the dog Sunday, or Sunny for short. Duff has yet to confirm the pup’s name though.
Where Did This Puppy Come From?
While many fans were overjoyed to see Duff’s new puppy, others were skeptical. Duff and Koma live in New York, so they drove all the way to a farm in Pennsylvania to pick up the puppy. It seems that Duff chose to buy a puppy instead of adopt. And to make matters worse, some commenters pointed out that Pennsylvania has a lot of puppy mills. One person even claimed that they were aware of a puppy mill selling Saint Bernards in the area.
If Duff’s new puppy really came from a puppy mill, then it seems very out of character for her. Duff is known for adopting dogs in the past, so why would she suddenly choose to buy a puppy instead? In 2017, she adopted Momo the puppy from Love Leo Rescue. In 2018, she adopted Lucy the senior dog from the same rescue. So, she has always seemed happy to encourage people to adopt.
The location of her new puppy might have some red flags, but it’s impossible to be certain where the puppy came from based off the limited information she shared. For all we know, the puppy could’ve been from a rescue that Duff didn’t mention. So, while it would be best if the puppy was a rescue, it’s not good to jump to conclusions. For now, let’s just enjoy the adorable puppy photos that Duff has shared.
