Every December, dogs all over the world sit at shelters, wishing they had a home for Christmas. These dogs have often been overlooked for months, and sometimes even years. Shelters and rescues try their best to make Christmas as special as possible for the dogs in their care, but it’s never the same as having a forever family.
This year, dogs all over the United Kingdom are speaking up. They wrote letters to Santa, asking him for a forever home. Each of them desperately hope someone will see their letter and grant their wish. Maybe this will be their lucky year.
Meet some of the sweet shelter dogs below. Their emotional letters will melt your heart!
Kelly at Dogs Trust Shoreham
Kelly is a four-year-old German Shepherd who has been searching for a home for over two years now. She doesn’t tolerate being alone well, so she needs a family who is home most of the time. However, she’s very smart and is always eager to learn new things. She’d prefer to be the only dog and be kept away from other dogs as much as possible. While she can be one active pup, her new family needs to be careful due to her hip problems. But she’s a sweet girl who just needs someone to be patient and give her love!
“Dear Santa Paws, I’m currently staying at Dogs Trust Shoreham with carers who have looked after me for almost 3 years! I’m well looked after here but I’m really hoping by next Christmas I’ll have a home to call my own. I would love nothing more than a family who will take me on quiet walks, dedicate lots of their time to me, and love me forever. I’ll be keeping my paws crossed and promise to stay (mostly) on the good-girls list!”
Lillie at Dogs Trust Newbury
Lillie the eight-year-old Beagle is just as loving and playful as you’d expect a Beagle to be. She loves exploring outside and she can be very independent. She’d prefer a quiet, but active family who is willing to take her on plenty of new adventures. She knows lots of cool tricks, but her family will need to continue training with her. This sweet girl could live in a home with another dog, but she can be protective over her food. It’s nothing that a little training and love can’t fix though!
“Dear Santa Paws, This year I’m spending Christmas at Dogs Trust Newbury, where I’ll be getting lots of festive treats and even a special doggy Christmas dinner. I’ve been a good girl all year. I’ve got my paws crossed that in the new year a family will welcome me into their home so I can show them all my tricks.”
Pugsley at RSPCA Leeds, Wakefield, & District
As his name implies, Pugsley is a four-year-old Pug and Jack Russell Terrier mix. He had a sheltered start to life, so he can be a bit reserved and nervous at first. He’s looking for an active family who will take him on lots of fun adventures. He’d prefer a rural home with no young children. If possible, he’d also like a home with minimal guests so he won’t feel as anxious. Overall, he just needs a patient human to show him what a loving home is really like.
“Dear Santa, My friends at the RSPCA tell me I’m very special which is why I’ve had to wait a little bit longer to find the right home. I really hope you can help my forever family find me this Christmas.”
Brodie at RSPCA Mount Noddy
Brodie the two-year-old Chihuahua has had trouble finding a home because new humans and animals can be scary to him. But he is very sweet and loving once he really gets to know someone! He loves taking in new smells, and will need plenty of training. He’d prefer a quiet home with no kids so his big personality can finally shine through.
“Dear Santa, For Christmas, I would love a home of my own in the countryside. I like to have cuddles and love using my nose so I would love to find someone who will do some scent work with me too!”
Bridget and Princess at RSPCA Stubbington Ark
This dynamic duo is a pair of unlikely friends, but they’d love to find a forever home together. Princess is a small terrier while Bridget is a large mixed breed. Both of them are 3 years old. They were rescued and brought to the shelter together, and they both have big, silly personalities. They’d love a home with no younger children or other animals. As long as they’re side by side, they’ll always be happy.
“Dear Santa, For Christmas this year we’d love to find a home of our own. Our friends are getting adopted so quickly but no one has been in to meet us yet and we don’t understand why. We’ve been good girls!”
Maxy at RSPCA Blackberry Farm Animal Centre
Poor Maxy is a sweetheart who has yet to experience a loving Christmas. The nine-year-old mixed breed spent long periods of time alone outside, so now he needs a warm home where he can feel safe. He might have never lived in a comfortable home before, so his new human needs to be kind and patient with him. But he’s sure to give his new family lots of love in return!
“Dear Santa Paws, I’ve not had an easy life and I’m getting a little old and stiff now. All I want for Christmas is to find a warm and cozy home to call my own. I’m 9 years old now and I don’t think I’ve ever experienced a proper Christmas with all the food and cuddles, which are two of my favorite things! I really hope it’s not too much to ask.”
Nessie at Dogs Trust Merseyside
Nessie is a shy girl who arrived at the shelter in rough condition. She has since recovered and is now in picture perfect health. The four-year-old Lurcher loves going on walks and cuddling with humans she trusts. She would prefer a home with a fenced-in yard so she can run around and play. Her new family can have older kids, but she would prefer to be the only dog.
“Dear Santa, This year I’ll be spending Christmas at Dogs Trust Merseyside, where I’ll get lots of festive goodies, and even my own special doggy dinner! I’ve never had a home before, so I’m hoping as I’ve been a good girl all year, that my Christmas wish of a new home will come true. I’d love to be able to play until I am tired, then I can snuggle up with my family on a big comfy bed and snooze the winter nights away.”
A Home for the Holidays!
These are some of the many dogs that wished for a forever home this holiday season. If you’re looking to add a new member to your family, please consider an overlooked shelter pup. They’re extra lovable and you could give them their first Christmas in a loving home. Hopefully, Santa can help all these dogs’ wishes come true in no time!
