Sleepy Puppy Bowl Star Chunky Monkey Stole The Show & Our Hearts

Chunky Monkey Puppy Bowl

Was there a Super Bowl game this year? It’s hard to remember after seeing the adorable lineup for the 2021 Puppy Bowl. As always, the show was adorable and heartwarming, but one rescue pup stole the most hearts. A black and white fluff ball named Chunky Monkey is trending all over Twitter. While her team didn’t win and while she wasn’t the official MVP, she quickly gained as much support as any human football player.

Chunky Monkey’s success proves that winning isn’t everything. Sometimes, you can take a nap on the field and fans will still adore you.

Meet Chunky Monkey!

Chunky Monkey is from Green Dogs Unleashed in Virginia, along with her siblings who are also named after Ben & Jerry’s ice cream flavors. The rescue said that Chunky Monkey looked chunkier than the other pups, which is how she earned her name. This lovable puppy played for Team Fluff in the 2021 Puppy Bowl.

Online, Chunky Monkey is listed as a 15-week-old Chow Chow and Irish Red and White Setter mix. But on the show, she was referred to as a mix between a Chow Chow, Maltese, and Shiba Inu. No matter what she’s mixed with, she’s adorable!

The fluffy pup competed in the Puppy Bowl alongside four other dogs who were from the same rescue. A 7-month-old Boston Terrier named Marshall won the title of MVP, but Chunky Monkey gained more popularity than her friend. During and after the game, Chunky Monkey was trending on social media.

But Chunky Monkey didn’t steal hearts because she was a team player. Instead, she became famous thanks to her adorable face and her lazy attitude. They’re not exactly the traits you’d want for a sports game, but they seem to be working well for her.

It’s All Just Fun and Games

When Chunky Monkey ran out onto the field, she was full of spirit and ready to play. But soon after, she curled up and took a nap right in the middle of the field. It was adorable and very relatable, yet her team was penalized for it. A sleepy puppy is never a bad thing!

Despite bringing her team down, fans rooted for Chunky Monkey. Hundreds of posts on Twitter stated how people loved her and would die for her. After all, how can you resist that puppy face?

Sadly, despite Chunky Monkey’s efforts, Team Fluff lost by just a hair. Team Ruff made a comeback at the end, making the final score 69-73. But we all know who the real winner is.

Since the Puppy Bowl was filmed ahead of time, Chunky Monkey got to watch herself in action with her new mom, Cassandra Asekhauno. Asekhauno adopted Chunky Monkey before the Puppy Bowl aired, and she has since renamed her Ella. Right now, Ella/Chunky Monkey is still a small fluff ball, but she’s expected to reach 76 pounds when full-grown.

Congratulations, Chunky Monkey! You’re the real winner in our hearts.
