Professional Violinist Creates Beautiful Tik Tok Duet With Howling Dog

For me, the best part of using the Tik Tok app is access to videos of animals everywhere. From dogs and cats to wildlife sanctuary residents to farm animals, these types of videos are, I think, the best of what this app has to offer.

If you’re not on the app, a video of a Border Collie named Nicolas lying on a window sill and howling has been viral for a while now. Tik Tok user @juliaszypulska02 uploaded the video originally, captioning it: “Born to be an opera singer.”

This dog’s howls are beautiful and operatic, with a distinct melancholy quality. It really sounds like the pup is singing opera! He even holds and hits different notes.

“Doggo’s Lament”

Naturally, a video like this got tons of responses, the best of which is an instrumental accompaniment from a professional violinist. The Dallas Symphony Orchestra account created a “duet” with the original dog video.

In this duet, co-concertmaster Nathan Olson plays the same notes the Border Collie howls on his violin. It makes for a beautiful song!

Text over the video asks: “What instruments are missing from this ensemble?”

One commenter suggests the song could use some piano. So, in a follow-up video, the Dallas Symphony Orchestra stitched in a piano player to accompany the other instruments (dog and violin.)

Other musician accounts have also created their own songs using the Collie’s original tune. Unsurprisingly, Nicolas’ singing inspired tons of people, as the original video has been viewed around 5 million times.

“Who Hurt This Dog?”

Because Nicolas’ wails inherently sound so sad, some (jokingly) asked what prompted these howls. The original creator, @juliaszypulska02 replied:

“He howl[s] when: he is happy, another dog is howling, he want[s] to draw our attention, or when he hears the fire or ambulance sirens.”

Nicolas is just a chatty dog it seems! Regardless, many commenters say he has the talent to make a career out of this skill.

“As a professional opera singer I approve we need him at the Met RIGHT NOW.” – Amanda Rindlisbach via Tik Tok

“How does he stay in key so well? He’s consistently in F# minor and doesn’t flinch!” – Carter Drain via Tik Tok

Vibrato and vocal quality like this would certainly be worth pricey opera tickets!
