Will Young Protests MBR

Singer Will Young will do whatever it takes to save dogs from abuse. He has two rescue dogs of his own, so he knows how important every dog’s life is. When he found out about an abusive dog breeding facility in the UK, he was eager to protest.

Members of the Camp Beagle campaign stood outside Marshall BioResources (MBR) in Cambridgeshire to protest animal abuse. MBR is known for breeding Beagles only to experiment on them and torture them. Young joined the protest by handcuffing himself to the facility’s gate, which brought more attention to the situation.

MBR’s Horrific Practices

Every year, MBR breeds 1,600 to 2,000 Beagles. When the dogs are only 16 weeks old, they’re taken to animal testing facilities in the UK, where many puppies are killed before turning six months old. For the testing, the dogs are fed and exposed to substances to see how their hearts, lungs, livers, and kidneys respond.

UK laws require that new medicines must be tested on two animals before they can be sold. One of those animals must be a non-rodent, so dogs are commonly used. Nearly all of the tests involving dogs use Beagles. Not only is animal testing an inhumane practice, but Camp Beagle believes that it’s also dangerous to humans. Testing on dogs doesn’t always provide safe and effective treatments for humans. However, MBR refuses to see a problem with their actions.

“We remain proud of what we do every day because our work allows the progress of medicine to save millions of human and animal lives,” MBR said in a statement.

But Camp Beagle won’t stop fighting for what’s right, and Will Young isn’t the only celebrity supporting them. Comedian Ricky Gervais and actor Peter Egan have also spoken up about MBR’s horrific practices. Many people don’t even realize canine testing still occurs, so every voice matters.

Keep Fighting for What’s Right

On November 16th, 2021, Camp Beagle held a protest outside of the MBR facility. During that time, Young stopped by and handcuffed himself to the fence while holding a sign that said, “Cambridgeshire famous for Beagle torture thanks to MBR.” In photos, Young looks like he’s protesting alone, but dozens of other passionate animal lovers gathered on the other side of the street too.

“I wanted to bring attention to animal testing and the fact that this is a puppy farm that farms over 2000 beagle puppies a year to be sent out to their inevitable torture and death,” Young said. “People do not know about it in this country and that is why I’ve handcuffed myself to the gates.”

Later in the protest, Young was seen talking to police officers, and he removed his handcuffs after speaking with them. Then, after he went home, the remaining protesters were met with a horrifying sight. A van full of crying Beagle puppies left the business as protesters screamed and cried. The authorities guarding the vans admitted that they weren’t bothered by the situation.

Unfortunately, many inhumane breeding businesses and cases of animal abuse go unnoticed around the world. In another recent event, Dr. Anthony Fauci was found using taxpayer money to abuse Beagles for testing. Dogs deserve to be loved and cherished, not hurt and taken advantage of. So, it’s time for canine experimenting to end so we can give these dogs the incredible lives they deserve.
