Princess Charlotte recently celebrated her 7th birthday, but that wasn’t the only big news the royal family had to share. Kate Middleton and Prince William included their most recent furry family member in Charlotte’s birthday photos. It’s the first time an official photo of the dog has been posted.
The dog’s name has also been revealed, and it’s a beautiful fit for the royal pup. Even though the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge rarely have their pets in the spotlight, dog lovers around the world want to see more of this gorgeous Cocker Spaniel.
Introducing a Golden Princess!
The day before Charlotte’s 7th birthday, the Duke and Duchess shared a few photos of her in a light blue sweater surrounded by bluebell flowers. In one photo, she’s joined by the family’s Cocker Spaniel.
Sources revealed that the dog’s name is Orla, a Celtic name that means “golden princess.” So, it suits this beautiful pup well! They brought Orla home in 2020, shortly before their other dog named Lupo died.
“They were devastated when Lupo passed away, as any dog owner will understand, but got the new puppy before he died,” said a friend of the family. “It was hoped that a younger dog would give Lupo some company and give him a little more life and energy.”
Kate took the beautiful photos of Charlotte and Orla at Anmer Hall in Norfolk. This is the third year Charlotte has celebrated her birthday in Norfolk. Many friends, family, and fans wished the young royal a happy birthday and told her how beautiful she is.
Orla Embraces the Attention
Like Lupo, the couple got Orla from Kate’s brother, James Middleton. James has six dogs of his own, and he also breeds Cocker Spaniel puppies occasionally. So, Orla is related to James’ pups just like Lupo was.
Lupo had joined the family in 2012, shortly before their first child, Prince George, was born. The sweet dog passed away at only nine years old. Even though Lupo didn’t get to spend much time with Orla, it’s likely the two dogs would’ve been good friends.
William and Kate don’t post about their kids and pets often because they want their children to have a fairly normal upbringing. It’s unclear if we’ll see more pictures of Orla in the future, but many fans hope so! The pup is an adorable addition to the royal family, and she surely gets lots of love from all her humans.
