The comments are amazing! I didn’t know what my dog was allergic to so I had her tested. Off the chart allergic to storage mites which is in any dry dog food and treats and even people food with flour. Solution is to freeze the food to kill the mites. It’s so gross but true. You can google it. I figured she would be allergic to chicken or something but it is a mite that lives in the dog food.

Well we were only raw for 5 years. He suddenly developed allergies (skin) and we did an elimination diet 3x to figure out what it was. Turns out it’s environmental (river/lake water) we can’t figure out what else it is other than he clears up when it’s 80% humidity and it gets really bad at 20%.
He was just put on allergy food, allergy medication, allergy foam stuff, and he has to be bathed in allergy soap/antibacterial so his hot/scratch spots don’t get infected. He had been wearing a light jacket full time inside for 2 weeks when we hit a dry spell (-45c) (and yes we have a humidifier but it can’t keep up).
It’s been 7 days, no more jacket and you can pet him again, skin is clearing up, scratching has nearly stopped. Got my happy go lucky boy again.
I’m not listing the actual medications as I feel it should be investigated with your vet. My vet is pro raw but for the meantime we made the switch.

Fromm rabbit no corn. Our boy is a blue but has very limited problems. If he would let us bathe him that would be great.

I have tried every dog food imaginable and Nulo is the winner! We mix the salmon and peas with the lamb and chickpeas. It has probiotics in the food so it digests in the gut. It’s a bit pricey, but has definitely cut back on vet bills and she’s a completely different dog now, more playful and not so snippy at our other Doberman. Best of luck, figuring out dog allergies is the worst!

My girl had a grain allergy as well as a duck allergy so we fed her Zignature and rotated through the flavors, her favorite was the salmon with some Stella and Chewys freeze dried raw.

We drive forever to keep our dobies on a food called unrefined. It’s minimal ingredients – no chicken – it keeps our boys with nice looking coats and no allergy issues like we had when we were on blue, science diet and a couple others

Raw is the best, we don’t do it. Was told to stay away from Lamb mixes and such. And do NOT do grain free, it causes other issues!

The majority of pets with allergies involves not only certain proteins, but also dyes, preservatives, and fillers, found in all prepared and packaged pet foods. Changing a pet to another pre made packaged food rarely completely solves the problem. After extensive trial and error of just about every dog food prescription and non prescription, out there we came to the conclusion that we would be cooking and preparing our pups food ourselves. He no longer has ears and rears, or room clearing gas and isn’t vomiting or having diarrhea any more either. I don’t hear his tummy from across the room as he’s trying to digest something he can’t anymore as well. We know what proteins he can have now and we stick to it along with some safer veg and fruit. I suggest speaking with your veterinarian and asking what sites they recommend for creating the perfect food for your fur baby. I also recommend having a referral to an allergist to determine exactly what proteins your baby can and can’t have before you start planning the meals. Most dogs with allergies can’t tolerate poultry so don’t be surprised if chicken is the number one no no lol. We are feeding organic grass fed pasture raised beef, and lamb. We add peas, carrots, zucchini, and organic brown rice with bone broth and cook it in two crock pots on Sunday’s for the week. Takes all of 15 min to prep it and 45 min to cool it, bag it, and wash the crocks. No big deal at all. When we feed him he gets blueberry’s added in with salmon oil, vit e oil, and a probiotic. His snacks are apples, carrots, watermelon, cooked eggs, green beans, cucumbers, cooked potatoes cubed (rare treat) and more cooked beef cubed. I hope all this helps!
