Some People Say Pappy Will Never Find A Home. Let’s Prove Them Wrong.

This week is Adopt a Less Adoptable Pet Week. Shelters are full of wonderful dogs that need forever homes. Puppies and pure breeds and smaller dogs get snapped up far more quickly than others. Age, breed, health problems, color and size can all impact a dog’s ability to find a forever home. To help, PetFinder launched Adopt a Less Adoptable Pet week in 2009.

Here at iHeartDogs we have a special place in our dog-loving hearts for the pups that are frequently passed over. That’s why we are trying to get the word out about a specially chosen “Less Adoptable” dog each and every day of Adopt a Less Adoptable Pet Week. With your help, we can find these special animals a place to call home.

Introducing Pappy!

Oh, Pappy. You have the perfect face. Pappy is a 10 year old Shih Tzu Spaniel Mix. He is a cream and beige color and weighs in at 14 pounds. Despite living a life full of neglect and hardship, he is a very loving and friendly guy. He enjoys the companionship of other animals and people and would do just fine in a house with kids and other pets.

Pappy’s Neglected Past

Pappy and his siblings were rescued by A Forever Home Animal Rescue in Florida. The dogs were being horribly neglected and were confiscated due to their terrible living conditions. Before their rescue earlier this month, Pappy and his siblings were living outside in an aquarium that was covered by a tarp. This tarp-covered aquarium was their only shelter. They lived outside 24 hours a day, 7 days a week come hail or high water. When they were confiscated it was 90 degrees outside and all of the dogs were hyperventilating.

Pappy’s life immediately saw a massive improvement. The rescuers at A Forever Home Animal Rescue brought them indoors and provided them with beds. For the first few days, Pappy slept on the floor. He had never been offered a bed before and didn’t know what it was. He was absolutely filthy and his coat was so matted that they had to shave it all the way down. His nails were so long they were growing into his paw pads. To say that Pappy has had a rough life is an understatement.

Pappy’s Personality Perseveres

For 10 years Pappy was given human attention only when he was forced to breed. Thank goodness he was not alone in his aquarium cell and at least had the comfort of other dogs. Pappy’s winning personality has persevered through all of his trials. Now that he is he being lovingly cared for, he is happy, approachable, and very affectionate. That is a testament to the goodness that exists inside all dogs. Pappy deserves to spend the rest of his life receiving care and devotion that will counterbalance all that he has had to endure.

Pappy is Lonely and Needs Your Help

All of Pappy’s ‘cellmate’ siblings have been adopted. He was the oldest at 10 years old and he hasn’t found that person who sees all the wonderful gifts senior rescues have to offer their families. Let’s help him find companionship and love for all of his remaining life.
