Losing a dog is a tough thing to cope with, both socially and professionally. When it comes to mourning for animals, we typically do so without formal ritual because we’re told this type of loss comes secondary. That makes it difficult to grieve publicly or take time off from work or social activities even though we’re heartbroken.
The truth is, losing a dog is extremely difficult to endure, and it can be harder for some than others. There’s nothing wrong with acknowledging this, no matter how you think you’re “supposed” to feel! There’s actually scientific evidence that says losing an animal can be even harder to cope with than losing a human in some cases.
Famed pop-singer Lorde‘s recent message to her fans regarding delaying her third album release elegantly explained how the death of her beloved dog Pearl impacted her emotionally and creatively.
It’s easy to forget that celebrities are human and that their work, no matter how public, can be impacted by personal tragedy. Lorde in particular has been in the public eye for her music since she was 16 years old (and she’s just 22-years old now.)
A Lorde fan account shared screenshots of the email. According to the note, Pearl had suffered from various illnesses his entire life. She had been giving him medication and taking him to see specialists for his conditions.
Sadly, in October of 2019 Pearl’s illness became too much for his little body to handle.
“But one day we woke up and I knew, in that way mothers do, that he was sicker than we had realised, and that we were nearing a point where his body wasn’t going to be able to cope. I rushed him to the specialists. Pearl had two cardiac arrests about an hour apart, and after the second one, he died. I was holding him when he went, and I know he knew that I was there.”
Poor girl😭! Lorde has delayed her next album after the loss of her precious dog Pearl. She has said her inner light had 'Gone Out' after Pearl's passing. Sending good thoughts and love! ❤️📷: Daily Mail

Lorde called Pearl’s death “indescribably painful” and a halt to her creativity. He was extremely important to her.
“The bright energy I was trying to communicate to you has gone, for now. He was instrumental to the discovery that was taking place. I felt he led me towards the ideas.”
She requested that her fans be patient and understanding of the timeline for new music as she heals.
“I have lost my boy and I need some time to see the good again, to finish making this for you.”
Overall fan support for the singer has been huge. People really appreciate Lorde’s honesty and transparency about her creative process as well as her personal tragedy.
Hopefully the silver the lining of this sad story is that it can inspire us ll to let ourselves properly grieve for our departed pups.
