Channing Tatum To Honor His Late Dog In New Movie

Brace yourself. Channing Tatum is working on a movie that features him and a dog. Not just any dog. This motion picture, co-directed by Tatum, is based on his real-life dog who passed away in 2018. Tatum and his ex-wife shared custody of Lulu, a Pit Bull Catahoula mix who they adopted from a shelter in Alabama.

Leave The Tissues At Home

Don’t worry though. This movie is said to be less like Marley and Me and more of a gut-busting comedy! The movie was written by Tatum’s longtime pal Reid Carolin. It tells the story of gruff Army Ranger Briggs and Belgian Malinois Lulu. Yep, they even used Lulu’s name to honor her!

It follows the pair on a road trip down the Pacific Coast to a fellow soldier’s funeral. The duo apparently has quite the adventure getting there filled with law-breaking and death-defying scenarios. In the end, both Briggs and Lulu teach each other what it means to love again as they both find a second chance at life.

The movie is scheduled to come out on Valentine’s Day weekend in 2021. Now, it might not quite be on the same level as Magic Mike but can Channing Tatum really get any cuter than cuddling a dog? Nah, don’t think so.

The Real Lulu Was One-Of-A-Kind

Tatum’s love for the real Lulu was never a secret. The two were even known to recreate the iconic Dirty Dancing scene. Lulu grew to become the proud protector of Tatum’s young daughter, Everly. When Lulu died in 2018, Tatum and his ex-wife, Jenna Dewan, were heartbroken.

“To our sweet and fierce Lulu…thank you for being the best dog in the entire world and for fighting cancer for as long as you did. Thank you for your tireless love, protection, and humor,” she said.

Like any dog parent, Tatum and Dewan struggled to find comfort in their grief.

“Thank you for the adventures. Heartbroken doesn’t even come close to how it feels. But you will live on forever in our hearts and our memories…fly sweet angel,” Dewan added.

Tatum sounds excited to honor his late BFF in his upcoming film. After all, what better is there to memorialize the love of a dog than by sharing her with the world? The hunky dog lover shared the news on his Facebook.

“A little over a year ago I got back from a road trip where I said goodbye to my best friend. Now I’m making a movie inspired by her. So proud to announce that DOG will be released by @mgm_studios and in theaters next Valentine’s Day weekend,” Tatum wrote.
