Another Shelter Celebrates Empty Kennel For The First Time Ever

Amid all the COVID-19 panic, there’s still some good news now and then. Specifically, rescue dogs are benefitting from this situation more than anyone else. First, Chicago Animal Care and Control adopted out all their dogs, and many other organizations have followed in their footsteps. Now, Friends of Palm Beach County Animal Care and Control has also had a significant milestone. During the coronavirus quarantine, the Florida shelter successfully emptied one of their three kennels! All the dogs in that kennel found their forever families, leaving the staff and volunteers with plenty to celebrate.

Emptying the shelter made history for this organization. It was a heartwarming moment for everyone involved, so they decided to show their gratitude through social media. The shelter posted a video of their staff standing among the empty enclosures, cheering. In the kennel building, there are 48 dog runs, all of which are currently empty.

The empty kennel building is the space that usually houses stray dogs and overflow dogs from the adoption kennel. With so many people adopting during the COVID-19 quarantine, there’s no longer a need for the extra space.

“This amazing milestone was made possible by the help and support of our entire community! Thank you to the shelter staff and volunteers who work tirelessly to care for, find homes for, and advocate for the pets who come through these doors,” the shelter wrote on Facebook. “Thank you to our incredible foster parents who open their hearts and homes to thousands of pets each year.”

How to Continue Helping Dogs

Just because the one kennel is empty doesn’t mean that the organization is done helping dogs. They still have dogs available for adoption in their main kennel, along with some cats and horses. There will always be dogs looking for homes so it’s important for the community to continue supporting rescues and shelters.

All the adoptable animals are still being properly cared for throughout this pandemic. Staff and volunteers are still practicing social distancing as they give these dogs the best care possible. The goal is for as many dogs to find homes as possible.

This Florida shelter isn’t the only one out there in need of support. In their Facebook post, they encourage everyone to adopt shelter dogs. They thank everyone that has adopted a rescue dog, regardless of the shelter or rescue they adopted from. So, if you are able to, please consider adopting, fostering, or donating to help dogs in need. Hopefully, we can help even more kennels be emptied.
