Bill Belichick, the head coach for the New England Patriots, has had to make lots of adjustments due to the coronavirus. The NFL draft is just one of the many things he has to do from home right now. Due to social distancing, Belichick wanted as few people in his house as possible.
So, when getting ready for some TV coverage, he turned to his girlfriend, Linda Holiday, for help. However, to their surprise, another family member wanted to help out too. Their Alaskan Klee Kai, Nike, stepped up to help without even being asked. Now, he’s the star of the NFL draft!
NFL Draft From Home
To help her boyfriend as much as possible, Holiday learned some lighting and IT skills. She worked hard to get everything set up for Belichick’s appearance on the TV coverage for the draft. Little did she know, Nike was about to steal the spotlight.
Holiday stepped away from the TV set up for only a few moments. When she and Belichick returned, Nike was sitting at the table, right in front of the laptop. He looked like he was ready for his TV appearance. So, his parents decided that he deserved some extra attention.
“So, I’m doing the lighting and next thing I know, Bill had a couple of treats that were left over near his laptop and he stepped away from the table. And all of a sudden he looks and he goes ‘Look, look at the table’, and there Nike was just sitting there waiting patiently,” said Holiday. “He knew his treats were there, so that’s what prompted him getting up to the table.”
Nike sat there so perfectly that photos and videos of him were soon shared on the Patriots’ social media. In no time, fans were falling head over heels for the dog. Just like that, an unexpected NFL star was born.
A Star Overnight
Nike’s fame blew up in only a matter of hours. In just one night, he went from being an everyday dog to an Instagram star. Dog lovers all over the world could not get enough of his adorable appearances. Sure, the photos look cute, but Nike is just trying to work hard for the Patriots.
Belichick could not believe all the attention his dog was getting. Nike already had an Instagram account just for fun, but it soon gained thousands of followers overnight. Only hours after Nike’s photo was posted by the Patriots, his Instagram followers went from 1,000 to over 15,000!
From now on, everyone better take Nike seriously. He is now the most important NFL employee, and he will continue to work hard even during these difficult times. As long as Nike is doing his job, the Patriots are in good paws.
