We can never replace the dogs we’ve lost, but we can always find ways to remember them. This is especially important for families who lose dogs unexpectedly and are having a hard time grieving.
When pregnant actress Mandy Moore lost her beloved rescue dog in 2020, she was devastated. Not only did she miss her lifelong friend, but she was also heartbroken that her unborn baby would never get to meet the special canine. Thankfully, her husband thought of the perfect way to help their son remember the pup without meeting her.
A Gift for the Baby
A few months after Moore’s dog, Joni passed away; her husband surprised her with an incredible gift. Moore adopted Joni from a shelter back in 2008, and despite reaching 13-years-old, the pup seemed to be healthy until she suddenly grew ill. Nothing could help ease the pain of Joni’s death, but husband Taylor Goldsmith still did his best to try.
Goldsmith gave Moore an incredibly realistic plush replica of Joni. At first glance, it almost looks like a real dog. While Moore adored the stuffed animal, she decided it would be more for her baby than for herself.
“This was by far my fav gift over the holidays- something that @taylordawesgoldsmith had made. It’s a little stuffed animal version of my beloved Joni so that our son will still know her, even though they never got to meet,” Moore wrote on Instagram.
Remembering Joni
One of the hardest parts of losing Joni for Moore was realizing that her son would never get to meet the pup. Joni had such a big impact on Moore’s life, and she was there for every up and down. So, while this plush replica of Joni can help Moore’s son see how adorable the dog was, it will never do her justice.
When Moore shared photos of the stuffed animal on Instagram, many followers were shocked. They thought it was a real photo of Joni at first and were amazed by the details. Moore responded to some comments, admitting that even her other dog named Jackson was a little confused by it.
We all wish our dogs could live forever. We’d love for all family generations to get to know the canines who shaped our lives. But sadly, dog lifespans are just too short, which is not fair at all. Hopefully, in addition to this adorable plush clone, Moore will also share lots of memories of Joni with her son. After all, memories can last a lifetime.
