Singer Miley Cyrus recently said goodbye to her Pit Bull named Mary Jane, who had been fighting cancer for over a year. While Cyrus has several rescue dogs, Mary Jane has always held a special place in her heart. The two were inseparable, so the pain of losing the pup is unimaginable.
To honor Mary Jane, Cyrus shared an emotional tribute on her Instagram story. She also shared a song she wrote about the dog with fans, which is even more emotional now that her beloved dog is gone.
A Tribute to a Special Dog
Mary Jane was diagnosed with cancer over a year ago, so Cyrus knew to cherish every moment with her while she could. Even so, it was still a shock when she finally had to say goodbye. So, she posted a lengthy message on her Instagram story in Mary Jane’s honor.
“Anyone who knows me & it doesn’t have to be well is aware that my best friend in the whole world is a rescued pit bull mix named Mary Jane,” wrote Cyrus. “[I was] advised to spend every second savoring her special spirit…. which wasn’t anything new. I had been for 10 years.”
Cyrus also explained that it’s easy to take things in life for granted. But with Mary Jane, she never forgot how special she was.
“She was a dog with wings in a way,” Cyrus wrote. “I thanked her repeatedly as she took her last breath for who and what she has been to me. It was something more than a friend or family member. Something so different. You can’t define it.”
Mary Jane’s Song
Cyrus concluded her tribute on an emotional note, and soon after, she shared a song to go with it. The song is called “Mary Jane 5EVR” and it was written about the dog years ago. But the song is even more special to her after losing Mary Jane.
“She is no longer hurting but I am. That’s what love is. Mary Jane passed with grace, dignity, peace, & power. She lived by the golden rule of kindness and compassion toward all. She was strong when she needed to be but never for too long,” wrote Cyrus. “[Mary Jane] would never let her soul close. She lived so open. To love and be loved. If only we were all more like Mary Jane.”
So, Cyrus shared the song on her Instagram page not long after posting her tribute. She shared many adorable photos of Mary Jane throughout her life. The singer has always had a passion for rescuing dogs in need, but losing them is always the hardest part.
Rest in peace, Mary Jane. You lived such an incredible life.
