While there are “countless stories of survival,” this one may take the cake! Deer Park Police Officer Joel Nitchman is used to taxing days, but this incident was undoubtedly his most challenging. His K-9 partner, Roni, was stranded inside their vehicle when a tornado hit, and the pup refused to come out!
Officer Nitchman willingly risked his life and headed straight into the grueling storm. Roni, trapped inside his crate in the vehicle, needed his human partner more than ever. The tornado intensified – and with debris, heavy rain, and wind gusts flying – Nitchman braved the storm. He made his way over and forcibly opened the crate door. But Roni still refused to leave the safety of the truck. The officer had no other choice but to drag him out.
The tornado worsened further as Nitchman attempted to coax Roni out. He finally succeeded! As they headed toward the station, the front door was blocked by a fence, but the pair was able to get around it. Now safe, Nitchman swears that the life-threatening situation has brought the two closer together. Thank you, Officer Nitchman, for saving your crime-fighting partner!
