We’ve seen several cat cafés open their doors for business, but the world has been long overdue for a canine counterpart. A place where dog people can sip coffee and chat with pals in the company of our beloved pooches.
The wait is almost over, dog lovers! New York City is getting a truly dog-friendly café, expected to open in December of this year! Father-daughter team Coppy and Logan Holtzman are opening Boris and Horton in New York’s East Village. Named after their own pups, Boris and Horton will be a café and lounge for dogs and the people who love them!
Unlike cat cafes, Boris and Horton won’t have adoptable, resident pets, but you can still adopt a best friend there during adoption events run by a local shelter. Visitors will be able to bring their own dogs from home, and for those who love dogs but, for whatever reason, can’t have one? You’re welcome to just go hang out with dogs and have a coffee! Heaven!
The New York Department of Health wouldn’t allow dogs in a place where food and drink is prepared and served, so the café is being built in two parts: a lounge and a café. Food and drink can be bought in the café, and then taken into the “dog side,” a lounge where there is seating for you and your pup, and a shop that will sell dog supplies. The Holtzmans say that staff will be available to watch pets while owners pop into the café to get their coffee, so there’s no worries about leaving them unattended.
The world is changing to accommodate our pets more and more and we love it! Boris and Holtzman is expected to open to well-behaved pets and patrons December 2017.
