Dog wardens in Pennsylvania have planned a door-to-door canvassing schedule to check Rabies vaccination records and dog licenses in 26 of the state’s 67 counties.
Residents with unlicensed or unvaccinated pets will face fines up to $300 per animal – including cats – as well as court costs.
According to the PA Department of Agriculture, dogs three months or older must be licensed by January 1 of each year per Pennsylvania law. Licensing fees are $6.50 each for spayed and neutered dogs and $8.50 each for intact dogs.
Seniors and people with disabilities are eligible to purchase discounted licenses for $4.50 for spayed or neutered dogs and $6.50 for intact pets. Residents may also purchase lifetime licenses at a cost of $31.50 for spayed and neutered pets and $51.50 for intact pets.
In addition, the dog wardens will be checking the Rabies vaccination status for all dogs and non-feral cats three months of age and older with the same $300 fines applying to unvaccinated pets.
April’s canvassing schedule will cover the following counties on these dates:
- April 2-6: Bradford, Clearfield, Cumberland, Jefferson, and Westmoreland counties.
- April 9-13: Berks, Centre, Clarion, Franklin, Luzerne, and Westmoreland counties.
- April 16-20: Carbon, Dauphin, Delaware, Elk, Huntingdon, Lycoming, Perry, Somerset, and York counties.
