Everyone loves dog selfies. Although, most dogs are not able to take photos by themselves. They usually need a human to press the button on a phone or camera for them. But a three-legged dog named Scraps doesn’t need anyone to help her out. She’s an independent pup who loves to take glamorous photos on her own terms.
Yet, it wouldn’t be possible without the incredible invention her mom created for her. Inventor and YouTube star Simone Giertz created a tiny dog photo booth out of Legos so Scraps could truly shine on her own.
A Pup’s Dream Come True
Giertz is known for her innovative creations, which are more for fun than practicality. Some of her past inventions include a Tesla pickup truck and an alarm clock that slaps her. Now, her newest and arguably best invention is one that her new furry friend can enjoy: a dog photo booth!
Despite being young, Giertz’s dog Scraps is very intelligent. She already knows how to scroll through pictures on a phone, but taking her own photos is still a challenge. Her paws are just too big to hit the button on the phone properly. So, Giertz realized that if she had a bigger, more visible button for Scraps, then the canine might be able to figure it out easier. But why have a dog camera without a dog photo booth?
So, Giertz got to work right away. Thanks to a partnership with Lego, she received enough Lego bricks to construct a tiny photo booth. Inside, she has a camera, along with a button for Scraps to press. When the pup takes a photo, a treat dispenser gives her a reward. The cute little photo booth even has a curtain for privacy. As soon as Scraps saw it, she fell in love!
Perfect Selfies
As she built the dog selfie booth, someone recorded her progress. It looks like a tedious project, but Giertz said she enjoyed every minute of it. In the end, Scraps seemed overjoyed to go inside it. The little dog first rested in it like it was a bed, but when Giertz encouraged her to step on the button, the photo booth snapped an adorable selfie. Of course, the photo booth also rewarded Scraps with a treat right away.
“She gets a treat, I get a photo. Everyone’s happy,” Giertz said in the video. “I could have futzed forever with this project because I had so much fun with it.”
Once Scraps realized that treats were involved, she gladly took plenty of pictures on her own. In some photos, she’s posing perfectly, but in others, she’s making some silly faces. All of them are extremely adorable.
Toward the end of the video, Giertz jokes that they don’t have any friends, so they don’t know of any other dogs who could test out the photo booth. But if she reached out to fans, dog parents would likely be lining up to have their dogs take selfies. After all, imagine how cute the results would be!
