Thanks to the support of customers like you, happy endings like the one below are made possible.
Sammy the dog was living on the streets with his owner, a homeless gentleman, when he was tragically hit by a car.
Because his owner couldn’t afford an expensive surgery to help the dog, Sammy was surrendered to a local veterinarian. One of his hind legs was severely injured and ultimately needed to be amputated.
Luckily, Sammy recovered from his amputation surgery and was surrendered to Riley County Humane Society in Manhattan, Kansas.
“Sammy has been recently neutered and is still learning how to run and walk on three legs,” the rescue said. “Overall, the ‘tri-pawed’ life seems to suit him nicely.”
Upon being surrendered to the rescue, the rescue group quickly realized one sad thing about Sammy: he’d never had a toy of his own before. Because his owner was homeless, it’s likely the man couldn’t afford to give Sammy toys.
Thanks to the Greater Good Charities Rescue Bank, which supplies food to shelters in need, Riley County Humane Society was able to feed Sammy and other dogs at the shelter. The food donations allow them to save money for purchasing enrichment activities such as toys for the dogs. And boy, did Sammy love his new toys!
“Rescue Bank’s donation has made socializing Sammy, and other dogs, a reality,” the rescue group said. “Seeing a dog light up and experience their first toy is a memorable and rewarding experience.”
The before and after transformation of Sammy is nothing short of remarkable. Thanks to Riley County Humane Society and the Rescue Bank, Sammy is now flourishing in a foster home of his own. It surely won’t be long before he finds his forever home.
“He never had toys or other dogs to play with before his foster home, but now he does,” the rescue said. “He is coming out of his shell more and more every day.”
