A dog named Shortcake was surrendered to Animal Control Philadelphia with “signs of a lifetime of trauma.” A rescue organization, New Leash on Life, stepped in knowing dogs like Shortcake rarely find homes and end up on the euthanasia list.
New Leash on Life takes dogs that are at-risk and pairs them with prison inmates to be trained and socialized.
When Shortcake was released from Animal Control, she needed extensive medical treatment. The expenses were too much for the organization to afford, but thankfully New Leash on Life received a medical grant. Shortcake’s transformation is nothing short of a miracle. Everyone who met the brave dog fell in love with her, and she soon became the program ambassador. She even went to a Jay-Z concert!
Shortcake’s future family had lost their dog, Molly, to cancer and weren’t ready to adopt a new dog. But fate had other plans. When a cousin of theirs adopted a dog in Shortcake’s class, he told them all about this special dog who also needed a home. Destiny took care of the rest. They simply couldn’t resist Shortcake’s permanent wobble and her infectious smile! The deserving dog now has a forever home where she will be safe and loved forever. It doesn’t get any better than this!
