Many pet parents talk to their dogs as if they’ll understand. While our pups may not continue the conversation, there are plenty of moments where they seem to acknowledge what we’re saying.
Sarah Lawther from Sydney, Australia, had a moment like that with her adorable Staffordshire Bull Terrier named Honey. She regularly talks to Honey like she’s a person, but she doesn’t expect a response. Once, when she told Honey she was beautiful in a TikTok video, the sweet pup reacted in a heartwarming way, indicating that she understood the meaning.
Staffy is One of the Humans
Lawther brought Honey home when she was just a puppy, and the two formed an instant connection. She said she and her partner were obsessed with the dog as soon as they met her. They have always treated Honey like a person, so now that she’s full-grown, Honey reacts and responds to some things her humans say.
“It is almost like she’s talking back, which is crazy,” Lawther said.
It didn’t take long for Honey to have her own social media presence because of how adorable she is. The pup has a lot of popular posts on Instagram and TikTok, but one particular video went viral. The video shows Honey’s heartwarming reaction to being called beautiful by her mom.
Honey’s Heartwarming Reaction
In the TikTok video, the camera is focused on Honey’s adorable puppy face. Her mom says, “You are the most beautiful girl in the whole entire world.” When Honey hears that, she perks up and lets out the cutest little whine. Some followers noted that her whine sounds like she’s saying “aw!”
After Honey whines, her mom says, “Yes, you. You are, my baby. You’re perfect.” As a result, Honey whines again. Lawther ends the video by asking Honey, “Do you agree?” While Honey doesn’t verbally say anything, her wagging tail shows that she knows how beautiful she is, and she loves when her mom reminds her of it.

Lawther said she has been calling Honey beautiful since she was a puppy. She didn’t expect Honey’s video to get over 100,000 views, but she’s grateful that Honey’s sweet face is bringing joy to others.
Most importantly, Lawther is glad that Honey’s fame is helping end breed stereotypes. Staffordshire Bull Terriers are one of the breeds that commonly fall under the “Pit Bull” label, which is a group of dogs assumed to be aggressive. However, it’s clear that Honey doesn’t have a mean bone in her body, so hopefully, her sweet video will remind people to stop judging dogs based on their appearances.
