A Second Chance for Nibbles, The Goat: Unveiling the Harsh Reality of Animal Neglect and the Heroes Who Intervene

On Sunday, the Arapahoe County Sheriff’s office took to social media to provide an important update concerning a distressing incident involving a baby goat named Nibbles, discovered in a precarious situation weeks earlier. Responding to a distress call about animal cruelty at the 10200 block of E. Peakview Avenue the previous Saturday afternoon, deputies found Nibbles confined within a cage in the owner’s car, lacking both food and water. The only source of ventilation was a minimally opened window, scarcely enough to provide any comfort to the trapped animal.

This incident wasn’t the first time the goat’s wellbeing had been compromised. On March 7, the owner had been previously warned by the Arapahoe County Sheriff for subjecting Nibbles to a similar ordeal. The recurrence of such negligence led to Nibbles’ rescue by the deputies and the issuance of a summons to the owner for animal cruelty—a Class 1 Misdemeanor that carries severe penalties, including up to 364 days in jail or a fine up to $1,000.

In a move to ensure Nibbles’ safety and wellbeing, the deputies transported him to the Denver Dumb Friends League (DDFL), an animal shelter that, while usually not accepting goats, made an exception for Nibbles. At DDFL, Nibbles is receiving the necessary care and will undergo a comprehensive health examination to ascertain his condition before finding him a new, loving home.

The sheriff’s office shared their contentment and relief with the community, stating, “We are so happy to report Nibbles is safe now and being cared for, and he will never have to spend another night in a locked car.” The swift action taken by the deputies not only saved Nibbles from further harm but also highlighted the importance of animal welfare and the community’s role in safeguarding vulnerable creatures.
