Dog Abandoned With Sign, Food, And Favorite Toy Waits For A New Home

This dog’s luck is about to change. Duke should be with an amazing new family within the next few days after after he was found tied to a tree at the North Linwood entrance to Patterson Park in Baltimore with a heartbreaking note:

“My name is Duke. Here’s my favorite toy and my food. I am looking for a new home.”

Duke eventually found his way to Baltimore Animal Rescue and Care Shelter (BARCS), where he is currently under a 72-hour stray hold (unless his owner calls and releases him to be adopted sooner). Several potential adopters have already expressed interest in adopting him, so with any luck, he should have a great new home within a few days.

The folks at BARCS would like to remind people that it’s better to bring your dog to the shelter than just to abandon them. BARCS Spokeswoman Bailey Deacon told CBS Baltimore:

“As always, our message to the community is that BARCS is an open admission shelter. We accept animals without judgement and we are here to help pet owners in crisis. If ever you can’t keep your pet, you can bring them right down to the shelter.”

If you’d like to add your name to the list of people interested in Duke, you can contact BARCS at their website, Facebook page, call them at (410) 396-4695, or visit them at 301 Stockholm St in Baltimore, Maryland. If you aren’t lucky enough to give Duke the family he deserves, keep in mind that there are plenty of wonderful pets in your local shelter that need amazing homes
