A life on the road can be a bit lonely at times. With so many careers involving full-time travel, the desire to have a furry friend along for the ride is at an all time high. Luckily, this extended-stay hotel has the solution that so many traveling animal lovers needed.
A Home2 Suites in Biloxi, Mississippi is home to a beautiful program that helps comfort dogs and humans alike. With their Fostering Hope program in partner with the Humane Society in South Mississippi, they allow guests the option of fostering a dog during their stay and adopting them on their way out.
When you enter the Home2 Suites in Biloxi, you will always see a smiling canine face waiting for you in the lobby. The shelter hand-picks the dogs that would be comfortable with life in a hotel and sends them over one at a time for their chance to shine. Once they are in their own private suite in the lobby, guests have the option of taking a lovable pup to their room and experiencing time with their potential new fur baby.
Teresa Johnston, the hotel sales director, approached the humane society with the proposal of this unique foster program. Teresa is an avid animal lover herself and wanted to give guests the opportunity to give back to their community in a big way. It was an immediate hit!
“Teresa thought they needed to set their hotel apart and this was it. She wanted to have the business more involved with the community. It was a very out-of-the-box way to find our animals new homes so we were on board.”- Humane Society of South Mississippi.
Since starting this program in 2018, The Fostering Hope program has sent home 33 guests with the dogs they fostered during their stay. Though you are not obligated to adopt the dog you foster through the program, it may be pretty difficult to go home without them after your extended stay together.
Guests that choose to adopt a dog will fill out an application at the lobby counter and pay an adoption fee of $50. Each dog is fully vaccinated, micro-chipped, spayed/neutered, and sent with a clean bill of health from the shelter veterinarian.
