Truck Driver Finds Happiness Again Through The Love Of Her Adopted Dog

A Texas truck driver named Florencia Aguilar was left devastated after the passing of her beloved dog Bandit. After losing him to his battle with stomach cancer, she wondered if she would ever again find the happiness that Bandit gave her.

After losing Bandit, Florencia fell into a dark depression. She found it difficult to even leave the house and only ventured out when it was time for another truck route. Florencia began to wonder if the best cure for her broken heart would be through the love of another canine companion, but she just wasn’t sure if she could love another dog the way she loved Bandit. Once she finally came to terms with his death, she decided to pay a visit to the San Antonio Pets Alive! Organization.

Florencia was drawn to a Jack Russell Mix named Sparky once she noticed the similarities in his and Bandit’s coat color. Though she was thrilled to meet Sparky, he did not feel the same way.

Florencia and Sparky’s first introduction did not go as well as she had hoped. Sparky made it clear that he did not want to interact, and immediately growled and snapped at her presence. Though this interaction was less than ideal, Florencia decided that she was not going to give up on Sparky.

Florencia continued to visit Sparky over the span of a few weeks. With each visit, Sparky grew more and more comfortable with Florencia. As time went on, Sparky was finally comfortable with the idea of heading home with Florencia. Little did he know, he was about to set off on the most incredible adventure of his life.

“It was not until the day that Sparky trusted me… that I felt a spark of happiness that I had not felt in a long time.” – Florencia

Sparky is now the co-captain of his fur-mom’s big rig, and tags along on each of her trucking adventures. Florencia explains how the two of them are inseparable, and how she couldn’t begin to imagine her life without him.

“I can look at Sparky’s loving face and know that I’m okay because I have him beside me. I finally found joy on the open road again.” – Florencia

Florencia and Sparky’s story is so moving, that their story won second place in the Petco Foundation’s Holiday Wishes Contest. Due to the overwhelming support of their heartwarming relationship, San Antonio Pets Alive! was granted $60,000 in wishes funds.
