Dog Abandoned After 10 Years For “Not Learning To Be Good”

Abandoned Dog With Note

If someone is unable to care for a dog, the right thing to do is surrender them in person and tell the shelter why. But unfortunately, many people choose not to do this, which only makes dogs more scared and confused. That’s how an elderly Lab felt when he was abandoned outside Jasmil Kennels with nothing but a heartbreaking note.

When the staff found the dog tied to a fence outside, they were shocked. The note offered no real explanation as to why this sweet pup was abandoned. The only reasoning was that he never “learned to be good”.

The Heartbreaking Note

The senior black Lab had no microchip and the note wasn’t signed. So, animal services had no idea how to find the person responsible. They wanted to know the reasoning behind this surrender, but sadly, the note that was left with the dog only made the situation worse.

“Hello, can you please take me in, as my owner has abandoned me after 10 years because I have not learned to be good,” the note read. “So, I have been returned here where he found me. Thank you for looking after me, sorry for the inconvenience.”

No one could believe that someone would abandon their dog of 10 years, especially in such a heartbreaking way. Plus, the poor pup was likely more sad and confused than anyone else. He deserved much better than this.

Swale Borough Council Stray Dog Service shared photos of the dog and the note on their Facebook. They wanted to find out more information about the situation, so they asked the community if anyone knew anything about the dog.

What Will Happen to the Dog?

Stray Dog Service posted an update after they located the person who surrendered the dog. They didn’t give much information on the matter, but they said that the circumstances are different than they seemed. From there, they reached out to extended family members, who hadn’t known that the dog was abandoned.

The extended family members love the dog very much and they want to do whatever they can to keep him in a loving home. So, they have offered to adopt him so he can return to a familiar place. If the home check is approved and if the dog reacts positively to the family, then he will stay with them from now on. If it doesn’t work out for some reason, then he already has plenty of other families that have kindly offered to adopt him.

We might never know exactly why this Lab was left behind, but at least he will be loved from now on. Regardless of the reasoning, no dog should be abandoned that way. Instead, make sure you love your dogs unconditionally for their entire lives.
