#1 – Airedale Terrier
The Airedale is full of intelligent exuberance, who needs a variety of different training methods. He needs to be challenged physically and mentally or else boredom will set in. Originally bred for active work, keep an Airedale on its toes by enrolling them in an advanced training or sport class.
#2 – Blue Heeler
This hearty breed is loyal and hard working. A Blue Heeler would benefit from herding or agility classes. Not only will the extra training provide the physical exercise these dogs need, but also the mental stimulation that is required to keep them balanced.
#3 – Chesapeake Bay Retriever
Having a natural affinity for water, the Chesapeake Bay retriever would do well with any water sports. Their natural enthusiasm makes them eager to learn, although they may be a little slower to get what is being taught.
#4 – Dachshund
Big things come in little packages. Dachshunds require mental, as well as physical exercises to keep from getting into mischief. Build a digging pit in the backyard, bury some treasure and let the Dachshund do what it was designed to do.
#5 – Fox Terrier
This playful dog loves being with its pack, especially if there are children who will run and play with her. In addition to the large amount exercise the Fox Terrier needs, they also require a degree of mental stimulation to keep them from destructive behavior. Extra training in a sport like agility would give the Fox Terrier just what they need.
#6 – Siberian Husky
These beautiful dogs not only need plenty of exercise, but also need a job. Bred as working dogs, Huskies need to have a reason to get up in the morning. Putting them to work every day will make for a peaceful home life.
#7 – Irish Setter
Known for their rich chestnut red hue, the Irish Setter would be an exceptional choice for an active family. Known for their high energy, the Irish Setter would make an incredible jogging or hiking buddy.
#8 – Jack Russell Terrier
These little rascals are way too exuberant for their own good. A combination of high energy and high intelligence, this dog would do well with advanced training in a sport setting, to keep the mind active and burn off all that extra energy. If not exercised properly, the Jack Russell Terrier will find its own amusement, one that the owner won’t find very amusing.
#9 – Vizsla
These lovable family dogs will go stir crazy without daily physical and mental exercise. Bred to hunt, these dogs would benefit from tracking and trailing classes. They would make an excellent jogging partner.
#10 – Weimaraner
Otherwise known as the Gray Ghost, the Weimaraner is an exuberant, willful dog. Strong leadership skills and a lot of exercise are needed to keep this dog content. The Weimaraner is another breed that would make an excellent jogging or hiking buddy.
