One of our favorite celebrity couples/dog parents is at it again. Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively are not only adorable together, but they also adore their Golden Retriever, Baxter.
Baxter celebrated a birthday this week and his dad took to Instagram to celebrate. The pawsitively adorable post included two pictures of Reynolds and Baxter. Plus, there was a classic Ryan Reynolds caption that caused a bit of controversy.
Well, okay. It only caused controversy with one person: Blake Lively. Reynolds’ wife headed to the comments section to give him a hard time and it was perfect. Let me explain.
Sweet, Sweet Poison
Reynolds’ post to Baxter included the caption:
“Happy Birthday, Bax. I’d bake you a cake, but it would kill you. Not because you’re a dog. Everything I bake is poison. If I had to go to war, I’d just bring a toaster oven.”
So in other words, Reynolds was saying that he didn’t bake Baxter a cake because he loves him… and the cake would kill him. Remember that as you keep reading. Blake’s ensuing comment gave Reynolds a double punch.
“This is almost as sweet as the birthday post you did for me this year,” said Lively.
The irony?
- Reynolds didn’t actually post anything on social media for Lively’s birthday which was just a few weeks ago on August 25th.
- Lively herself posted a photo of Reynolds on her own Instagram story on her birthday.
What did she post, you ask? A picture of Reynolds holding a homemade birthday cake that he made her. It’s one of those cakes that makes people in the South say, “Bless his heart.” You know, the kind that of cake where you’d think, “It’s the thought that counts.”
Her witty and perfectly-timed comment suggests that Reynolds was “poisoning” her with his homemade death cake.
Also, fans have loved the post so much, they’re asking for a toasted to make an appearance in the next Deadpool movie. I’d rather see Baxter make a cameo!
No Good Deed Goes Unpunished
The cake was an adorable gesture, and certainly Lively was simply giving her hunky husband a hard time for his sweet post to Baxter. But, if you take a look at the cake, you could see where he was going with the whole “everything I bake is poison” statement.
Blake Lively’s perfect troll of Ryan Reynolds is giving us life and we want more of it!
