Man Takes To Reddit After Girlfriend Storms Out Of House When He Comforts His Dog With PTSD

reddit story

A US based Reddit user is struggling with what to do with a girlfriend that was not happy with the extra attention he was offering his anxious dog. After sleeping on the floor to ease his dog’s fear of loud noises, his girlfriend was left displeased.

About a year ago, the Reddit user adopted a dog that spent time working in the military. Similar to humans that struggle with loud noises after their time spent in the field, this loveable pup struggles as well.

“I adopted a retired military dog about a year ago. He has some ptsd and loud noises can be pretty hard for him.” – Reddit user

One night was particularly hard for the anxious pup, as the Reddit user was awoken to the sound of his dog whimpering and whining. Loud noises in their neighborhood were triggering the frightened pup, so the Reddit user did what he thought was best. He soon crawled onto the floor next to his favorite pup and slept next to him for the rest of the night.

When the Reddit user woke up the next morning, he discovered that his girlfriend was no longer in his home. She fell asleep beside him the night before, he wondered what could have caused her to leave in the middle of the night. After checking the messages on his phone, he soon discovered her disgust.

His girlfriend of 4 months stormed out of his house in the middle of the night and left behind a detailed text message of why she was so angry. According to the girlfriend, his attention toward his dog was evidence of his lack of care for her.

“When I woke up my girlfriend was no longer in the house and I had a text saying how the dog was more important than her and stuff like that.” – Reddit user

The girlfriend went on to explain how his actions toward his frightened dog proved that he cared about the dog more than her. Unclear of what to think about this odd situation, he turned to the internet for support.

“I don’t know what to do. At this point I think she was being pretty selfish and it makes me mad. She knows he has some issues. I might even want to end this relationship.” – Reddit user

Though this user went to Reddit for advice, the thread was found and shared to the @Redditships Twitter account. Once their followers caught wind of the girlfriend’s actions, they had a lot to say!

Though some of the comments vary, most of them feel as though the girlfriend was completely out of line in accusing her boyfriend of being uncaring. Some of the most popular comments include:

“The dog is more important than the relationship”

“So what he says is he is single and available?”

“How dare you show compassion for a living thing that isn’t her”

“Especially if you helped the poor dog have a better life. Don’t worry, as they always say, plenty of fish in the sea who aren’t …. this.”

“The dog will get you through this breakup”

So what do you think? Did the girlfriend have a right to react the way that she did, or should he help her pack her things?
